Publisher's summary

Set in the punk-rock scene of the early 2000s and vibrating with the intense ache of bad choices and deep longing, a needle-sharp portrait of a young woman and how far she’ll go to find acceptance

Kat is dying to be accepted by the North Carolina punks; she is totally desperate to seem cool. At a punk show, she ends up backstage with a rock star and gets noticed by a photojournalist. And then—a dream come true for Kat—her reputation as a groupie icon skyrockets. But to maintain this notoriety, Kat makes a series of devastating choices, and soon enough, she becomes unrecognizable to herself and others.

Tea Hacic-Vlahovic’s A Cigarette Lit Backwards is a sometimes funny, often brutally honest audiobook about ambition and self-discovery and how a world of glamour and cool exerts its bold and breathless pull. In prose that seduces, glitters, and exhilarates, Tea Hacic-Vlahovic has written a story that is both a wild party and a somber reckoning, consolidating her status as a thrilling and essential new voice for our time.

Contender for favorite book of the year, excellent and hilarious narration performed by author!! A must read!!

This might be one of my new favorite books ever. Absolutely addictive, I could not put it down and read it in about 3 days worth of commutes. The narrator, Tea Hacic-Vlahovic, is also the author and does a hilarious and awesome job of capturing a punk teen’s voice. This book is witty, edgy, funny, exciting, and sad. I laughed out loud and screamed NOOOO several times. Someone else might have even been brought to tears. It captures all the best parts of being punk, and all the extreme worst of it too. Tea does an awesome job doing different voices for different characters and has me cracking up doing Kat’s (mc) immigrant parents or any of the boys. Hilarious when all the teens are calling everyone BITCH in the happiest little voices. I can’t wait to read more Tea! Not recommended for younger audiences or people who don’t like a good time. Those of us who do… run don’t walk!

Tea is a star

It was so wonderful to hear Tea’s second book, inspired by her wild teen years, in her own voice. ACLB’s main character, Kay, is exceedingly relatable as she navigates the judgey punk scene of her small hometown. You can only root for her!
