About this listen

Konowa Swift Dragon, former commander of the Empire's elite Iron Elves, is looked upon as anything but ordinary. He has murdered a Viceroy, been court-martialed, seen his beloved regiment disbanded, and been banished in disgrace to the one place he despises the most---the forest.

Now all Konowa wants is to be left alone with his misery. But for him, nothing is ever that simple. The mysterious and alluring Visyna Tekoy, the highborn daughter of an elfkynan governor, seeks him out in the dangerous wild with a royal decree that he resume his commission as an officer in Her Majesty's Imperial Army, effective immediately. For in the east, a falling Red Star heralds the return of a magic long vanished from the earth. Rebellion grows within the Empire as a frantic race to reach the Star unfolds. It is a chance for Konowa to redeem himself---even if the entire affair appears doomed to be a suicide mission. And the soldiers recruited for the task are not at all what he expects. Worse, his key adversary in the perilous race for the Star is the dreaded Shadow Monarch---a legendary elf-witch whose machinations for absolute domination spread deeper than Konowa could ever imagine.

A Darkness Forged in Fire

Yet another wife inspired listen, I am not sure of the existentance of a pre-story, although it seems to go into very little detail other than the 'Iron Elves' were screwed over.

A decent listen, although I really liked the Dwarf Yimt Arkhorn I will continue with the series.

Bring on Book 2 !!!

Why not 5 out of 5 stars? Not possible; maybe if Tolkien (JRR) came back from the dead and wrote another LORT book, or Robert Jordan came back and finished what he started, or if George R.R. Martin released the last ASIF book. 4 of 5 is what I think of as "very good", I've listened to A LOT of fantasy audiobooks and I would recommend this book to somebody who likes epic fantasy. There are a number of plot threads laid out, and the characters are built up well. The tension and subtext to dialogs are interesting, the author (and narrator) project a good sense of emotions. The foundation is there, now ... BRING ON BOOK2 !!!

Michael Kramer is amazing - the story was just OK

I selected this audio book because I'm a fan of Michael Kramer (the narrator). As always, he does an amazing job. The story itself was good but not great. It seemed to lack depth as if background information about the characters had been edited out. I enjoyed the book but not enough to pick up the second book in this series.

Thoroughly enjoyable! Very entertaining!

Have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters and the plot were not as predictable as others in the same genre. As for the narration, Michael Kramer was definitely the guy for the job. He managed to personify the depth in each character and the true feeling of the book that I am certain Chris Evans desired. Several chapters gave me goosebumps. The climax and ending to the story were great!

This book was in my Audible library for a very long time before I finally managed to listen to it. Now I am kicking myself for not listening to it sooner or at least soon enough to put the second in the series on my download list last month.

Thank you Audible for making my commute something I actually look forward to each day. Ok, well maybe "look forward to" is a little much.

Decent Book, But Beware....

Before you even start this book I will warn you: The 3rd part of this trilogy is NOT on audible nor is it available anywhere else in audio form. I listened to the first 2. Had I known this I would not have bothered.

That said, this first installment is an enjoyable read. Pretty decent plot line and entertaining action. There are a fair amount of creepy factors that I happen to enjoy.

Pleasantly surprised...

I bought this on a whim but I am glad that I did. It has kept me entertained. A little slow in the beginning but not bad once you get into it. Looking forward to more books.

worth my time

This book, while i agree is not a unique one, is one that i enjoyed. it took me a little bit to get into it but once i did i was really upset to find that it has no sequel yet. i love series' that i can get into and this would definately suit me better than alot of books i've found lately. it progressed straight toward an obvious conflict at the end, but as the first in a series, Evans did a good job letting us get to know the characters well enough for me to see this as an intro. and i really do expect the next book/s to be even better.
