Penelope Hunter loves her job as the events manager at one of Savannah's premier historic venues - until her ex-fiance walks into her office with his new bride-to-be. To make matters worse, a scheming social matriarch is intent on seeing Penelope fired, especially if she insists on being seen with Tucker Westbrook.
Since returning from serving two tours in the Middle East, Tucker has built a thriving security company. His work is nearly as stabilizing as his friendship with Penelope, who has been by his side since childhood. But when the lone candidate for county sheriff goads him, Tucker loses his cool and ends up on the ballot - and on the receiving end of a smear campaign claiming the Westbrooks were traitors to the South.
To clear his name, Tucker and Penelope must join forces to find the truth behind a 150-year-old lost treasure. But the more time they spend together, the closer she comes to losing her job - and falling helplessly in love.

I think the read and listen feature made me love this book even more than before.
*Here is my original review of the paperback:
I LOVED this book! I know I say "I loved this book" about many books but it is true.
I loved the friendship/fake dating/actual romance between Penelope and Tucker. I felt their feelings and frustrations as I was reading. I loved the treasure hunt too.
The diary entries told a whole historical mystery and romance of their own. Caroline was a brave woman.
Aunt Shirley was fun. She's got secrets and truths, some she shares, others she encourages Tucker and Penelope to figure out on their own.
I truly enjoyed reading this book. Fun, faith, mystery, romance, and making peace with the past to make the future better.
Brilliant!

Suddenly, a scandal about his ancestry came up while he was running for sheriff. Penelope was at his side, researching, and trying to find not only the answers but a treasure. But this also put her job in jeopardy as the company's owner didn’t want a scandal involved in her business.
Pretty good story. What really made it with the narrator though. Excellent, excellent! I’ll have to remember Amy Melissa Bentley!
