About this listen

Jennifer Sylvester made her deal with the devil...and now, they’re engaged!

But all is not well in Green Valley. A chicken choker is on the loose, 61 dead birds most "fowl" need plucking, and no time remains for Jennifer and her devilish fiancé.

Desperate to find a spare moment together, Jenn and Cletus’s attempts to reconnect are thwarted by one seemingly coincidental disaster after another.

It’s not long before Cletus and Jenn see a pattern emerge, and the truth becomes clear. Sabotage!

Will an undercover mission unmask the culprit? Or, are these lovebirds totally plucked?

Engagement and Espionage is the first book in the Solving for Pie: Cletus and Jenn Mysteries series, a full-length cozy mystery, and is a spin-off of Penny Reid's Winston Brothers series. This novel is best listened to after Beard Science, Winston Brothers, book three.

This was absolutely perfect, just like all Penny Reid's books! I absolutely love the depth of all her characters, especially Cletus, Billy and Scarlett. From Knitting in the City to the Winston Brothers series, I am absolutely obsessed with Penny's writing, unlike any other author's writing. The only problem is that after her books, books from other authors might not be good enough.

Absolutely fantastic!

Ms. Reid you have done it again! This book was a show stopper. Funny, touching, sexy, insightful book. That made you want to stay up to listen. I always wondered why the chickens were killed in one of the other beard books! Totally a surprise! The complexity of your characters makes this book and all of your other beard brothers books feel like old friends. I take my bar off to you! You are one of the top fiction writers on Audible! I listen to a lot of books!

One of the best listens ever

I’ll be honest - sexy isn’t something I think I’ve ever put in a review. But it fits here. Narrator is perfectly matched for this book. Story is intriguing. Good mystery. Sexy parts, if those are something you normally fast forward thru, are not too long or too frequent. Likeable and just-real-enough characters to make the story engaging but still a bit more perfect than real life, if that makes sense? Looking forward to the next in series

Wow. Sexy, heartfelt, intriguing. Loved it

I loved the Winston Brothers series so much that they've become my go to books when I want a smile or a reminder of what family, love, respect not only of one's self but of what others should be like. I cannot praise Penny Reid enough for her brilliance in character development and wonderful story lines. That being said Beard Science was a favorite so I was elated to find more of Cletus and Jenn's escapades. I look forward to the next installment. Joy Nash and Chris Brinkley both give stellar performances as Cletus Winston and Jennifer Sylvester.

Love, Love, Love !!!!

More of Cletus and Jen? Yes please! They are my favorite couple of the Winston crew. But seeing more of Shelley was great as well. I love her. Joy Nash and Chris Brinkley are always an amazing team. Their narrations are wonderful.

Excellent!

I am both madly in love with and completely terrified of Cletus Winston. I have enjoyed every single Winston book, the actors, and the quotes that begin each paragraph.

Penny has done it again!!

I love all of Penny Reid’s series. This little offshoot with Cletus and Jen is both funny, a little adventure and some good spicy times as well. Definitely recommend!

If you loved Beard Science because of Cletus and Jenn you’ll love E&E too! This is a cozy romantic mystery with a couple who is devoted to each other but still have a few hurdles to overcome. The mystery is a good backdrop for their relationship issues and I enjoyed how they played out and getting behind the various personalities and vulnerabilities of several of these characters. This is basically an extended epilogue in the form of a full novel, there no “secondary romance” or anything like that: just Jenn and Cletus. But the Winston family is back and the interactions and support are lovely and entertaining to read. Love this story like the rest!
