About this listen

It is only three years since Tessa Gray lost her beloved husband William Herondale, and she is searching for a reason to live, trying to find the path of being a warlock with the guidance of her friend Catarina Loss.

World War 2 rains down destruction on their world, and Tessa and Catarina become nurses who make bargains at the Shadow Market for enchantments to help suffering mundanes. But can Brother Zachariah bear to see the woman he loves risk her life, or might he consider breaking sacred vows to save her from loneliness?

This story was a real tear jerker. Tessa and Jem's love is bittersweet. They are alive but kept apart by circumstance. Beautiful story.
The narrator brought the words to life.

I loved the story because.. London, Jem, Tessa...

But do these narrators do no research into the most widely accepted or used accents for recurring characters? Katerina has an accent that sounds as though it were from the West Indies or maybe even Spain. The narrator did American accents at first until she appeared to recall that background characters should have British accents.

Great story; Lousy narration

The story was so so. But the reader was trying to lower her voice to the level that it’s not natural. And it made the listener feel uncomfortable

The reader’s voice was annoying

I am loving listening to these novellas! If you haven't read The Infernal Devices then most of these Novellas would mean nothing to you but this one made my heart ache and swell at the same time. The love between Tessa, Will and Jem is extremely powerful and I cried over and over listening to this.

I cried the entire time.

Tess and Jem Carstairs get a brief moment of togetherness even if it’s in the middle of a literal war. I know they have a future but it’s hard to wait for their final story. I can’t wait to read or listen to the next in the series and hear more about these characters and of course the lost herondale!

Tess & Jem finally together again!
