About this listen

Four high-school students in present-day New Orleans are torn apart by envy, passion, and tragedy.

Meredith, Brandon, Greg, and Stephen quickly discover the fragile boundaries between friendship and betrayal as they enter high school and form new alliances. Brandon and Greg gain popularity as football jocks, and Meredith joins the bulimic in-crowd, while Stephen becomes the target of homophobia in a school that viciously mocks him. Then, two violent deaths disrupt the core of what they once shared.

Five years later, the friends are drawn back together as new facts about their mutual history are revealed, and what was held to be a tragic accident is discovered to be murder. As the true story emerges, other secrets begin to unravel and the casual cruelties of high school develop into acts of violence that threaten an entire city.

A Density of Souls is a stunning debut novel that lays bare the darker side of the teenage experience in modern-day America.

Everyone has their ghosts.

A thoroughly gripping coming of age story, brilliantly laid out across a haunted New Orleans.

Gut wrenching, erotic, soft, terrifying and tragic, sometimes all at once.

Strange and Disturbing

This book is strange, violent, and quite disturbing, with so many different characters it was difficult to keep track of them all. I listened through to the end but, after a point, I was very ready for it to be over! Narrator’s performance ranges from okay to mildly annoying.

Fantastic story! Definitely a re-read!

Loved the book the first time around. Loved the audiobook as well. My only complaint is that I wish the person narrating the audiobook pronounced New Orleans property. It's pronounced New Oar-linz, not New Oar-leans!

a good listen

although I found his writting style initially challenging in the end it was overall enjoyable. it is very different from his mothers and uniquely his own. the story was good with unexpected twists though I felt it jumped around a bit more than I tend to like. I was left wanting more information in the end however a can't honestly say that is a negative. definitely a good choice if your looking for a unique style of writting, overall story line was captivating. perhaps I'm underrating but being left wanting more and unaccustomed to the style gives it 4 stars all the way around.

I would re read this book over & over W/ circa survive playing in the background & just cry! My book was so highlighted and worn because when I was sad I would just open it up and it’s like god would point me to the place I needed to read! This novel has EVERYTHING & if ur gay even straight, but for sure gay & have never read this book!! Please do yourself a favor! If u have a teen son who is gay! Get them this audible or book! It will help them in ways u will never understand! If u r older remember how u felt in those high school days! Especially with a boy who was straight! That u couldn’t have! I just could never thank the author enough for this novel! And all the ppl he has touched w/ it! And that last page will send a shock thru ur body like nothing has before! I read all the time & I have still never read a last page that has come close to the ending of this book! Couldn't stop listening

Each character was so well written. I could picture each of them. The weaving story line kept me interested and wanting to know more about what was going to happen.
