Free legal clinic attorney Hanna Walsh was starting to believe she might have a future with Charleston police detective Alex Frank until his ex-wife returned intent on making up for past sins.

It's been over a year and Hanna has tried to move beyond the betrayal and violent murder of her husband. Alex, who helped bring the killer to justice, is becoming more than a friend. Then, his ex-wife comes back to town with a shocking secret and all of Hanna's trust issues come racing back.

When Alex's father is charged with the brutal death of a rival shrimp boat captain and Alex digs deeper into the crime, he finds himself in the crosshairs of dangerous killers.

Author tells way too much about previous events in earlier books in series . Need to be read in order. Way to much time telling story I had just read .

Good story but…

Book 2 picks up with the continuing story of Hanna Walsh and Detective Alex Frank. Hanna is still trying to put her life back together after her husband Ben was murdered in Book 1, her best friend Grace is in prison, and her free legal clinic is struggling. Book 2 opens with Skipper Frank (Alex's father) and his friend getting into fight and later found murdered. It also is dealing with Hanna's father Allen Moss having heart issues and Hanna going back to Atlanta. Hanna asks Phillip Holloway a well known defense attorney in Charleston to help Skipper Frank. Then if all this wasn't enough for Alex and Hanna, Alex's ex-wife Adrienne returns and claims the child she has is really Alex's.

Emily Sutton-Smith was fantastic with the delivery of the sory

Another good adition to the series

Narrator is nasal and worse, monotone. Parallel stories were convoluted, not spending enough time on details. Also, the killer was too obvious after first chapter.

Nope

Enough twists and turns to keep the reader/listener captive and interested to hear more

I kept my interest... so I'm happy 😊 Looking forward to listening to more of her work.

Love southern low country stories.

Liked that it was part of a series so I knew some of the characters. Slow moving and hard to maintain my interest.

Not as good as book # 1

The inauthentic dialects and constant changing of voices was distracting.
It would be better to just read in a normal voice.
Not my sort of book. I listened to it since I have spent many years at Pawley’s Island and the coastal area.
I’ve never heard that mixture of pretend southern accents.

Alex’s handling of the ex-wife was ridiculous and didn’t make sense to me. I liked the book other than that but every single time the story had her in it I cringed and wanted it over.

One Annoying Thing
