About this listen

In the quaint town of Hart's Ridge, Deputy Taylor Gray is a force to be reckoned with.

From clawing her way out of poverty and foster care to achieving her dream of being in law enforcement, Taylor is determined to make a difference in her community. When a five-year-old girl named Molly walks into a gas station alone and barely speaking, Taylor's determination is put to the test.

As she delves deeper into the investigation, Taylor discovers that even the most idyllic towns have their secrets. But this time, the stakes are higher than ever before. With a true crime element woven into the narrative, the search for Molly's missing mother becomes a race against time to stop a predator before it's too late.

As Taylor navigates the twists and turns of the case, she also grapples with her role as the unofficial caretaker of her fractured family. With a heavy burden on her shoulders, she'll stop at nothing to piece them back together and find justice for those who can't speak for themselves.

Join Kay Bratt in Hart's Ridge, the first book in a thrilling new small-town mystery series that will leave you on the edge of your seat. With a compelling blend of heart and suspense, this standalone novel is a must-listen for fans of Robyn Carr and Melinda Leigh. True to her reputation as an international best-selling author of Wish Me Home and True To Me, Kay Bratt delivers a captivating tale that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Easy listen

I liked the story but wanted a better ending for the little girl. Maybe a sequel is in the works?

Good book, great dog!

I couldn’t put this book down. Strong woman, under appreciated in a man’s world! Loved the dog angle & intriguing mystery. Highly recommend.

Respect!!

I respect the way she fights against being ostracized by her male counter parts and still does the job. I have been there

Absolutely Remarkable

I absolutely love this series already and I can see how these characters will evolve and grab you by the heartstrings.
By the time you get to the end, you will race to get started on Lucy in the sky Instead of waiting for those end credits to speak.
I tell ya, it's ANOTHER success written by an accomplished author, What would we do without her creative works and keeping the different characters straight and nothing like what is in her other series.
I couldn't stop, I tell ya, I highly recommend this and not just from the author, But the narrator is absolutely astounding. It's like She has done her homework with the delivering of each emotion, what is going on and what was going on behind the scenes.
What a remarkable team!!!

It was okay.

The blurb I read online is what pulled me in. A little girl found lost & the search for her family. Spoilers! If the story had been all about that I would have given a better review. But IMHO it was more about the heroine and her family which was a distraction. I think the twist at the VERY end was meant to make the reader angry enough to read #2. Meh. I don’t think I’m going to read the rest of the series.

Loved this book.

This was a great book that I listened to pretty much all at once. It grabbed me from the beginning to the end where I found myself almost crying. I highly recommend this book.

A Women in a Man ‘s World

What a struggle for Taylor…always an upward climb. Thank goodness man’s best friend helps her along the way.

GREAT BOOK, BUT WHAT’S UP WITH THE NARRATOR???

I thoroughly enjoyed this story about Deputy Taylor Gray and her new shelter rescue dog, “Bernard.” I have been looking for a new series for a while now and this is definitely it.

I almost didn’t finish this book, not because of the story, but because of the narrator, who ends about 50% of statement sentences as questions. It drive me BATTY throughout the book (I kept wanting to yell at her, “Are you asking or telling”)?! In the middle of sentences her voice would go up in strange places as well. Just weird. It was just one of those things, that once it got under my skin, it REALLY bothered me. Maybe it won’t bother you. I have now finished this series and I will say that with each book, the narration got a little better — the strange intonations became less pronounced, and to be fair, the narrator DOES have a very pleasant voice to listen to otherwise.

My favorite part of this book was the dog, Bernard. He has a few quirks (like an affinity for whole packs of toilet paper), and a general unenthusiastic, bored approach to EVERYTHING.

Bernard gets a little more interested in things by the end of the book as Taylor figures out what makes him tick. Bernard sure learns quick what pushes Taylor’s “guilt” button and as a dog (and cat owner), I found it pretty funny, because my pets have all trained me pretty quickly as well, and I found it funny that others are easily trained as well — even if they are only characters in books. I did find myself feeling so sad for Bernard in some places, but I am delighted he got his happily ever after.💕

I am so glad I stuck with this book — it turned out to be excellent and I found myself excited to start the next one. As I said, I have now completed the entire series, and I literally gobbled up each book at the rate of one per day. Now, I’m starting the whole series all over again (I have no idea what I’ll listen to when I finish this series for the second time).😩

I’ve already read Ms. Bratt’s series, “The Scavenger’s Daughters,” which was FANTASTIC (those books lead me to try this series). I’ve heard there is a whole other series by Ms. Bratt, “The Wishing Tree,” but unfortunately they are not carried by Audible.🫤

This is a wonderful book. Be prepared to be hooked and to spend a whole bunch of credits to read all the books in this series. I cannot wait to find out what awaits in Book Two, “Lucy in the Sky”!
