Critic reviews

"Garden contributes much to the booming subgenre of Christian literary fiction: the characters are well-developed, and their struggles are real, not saccharine. This is proof that a faithful Christian witness can come packaged in a quality novel." (Publishers Weekly)

Very well done!

It may seem a bit wordy in the beginning, but it grows on you. Very well done!

Style

Overall the story may have been fine, but I am not a fan of this style of book. I listen while doing other things and that makes books with so much forward and back too hard to follow. I did listen to the entire book and it did come to the expected conclusion and did not leave you hanging which was a redeeming factor.

If you don't understand poetry, don't read it.

This is an interesting book - the story rambles and skips around so much that sometimes you forget the point of where it's supposed to be going. However, we must understand that this lady is suffering through a terrible time and we are pulled into her emotional upheaval. If you can bring yourself to understand what is happening in her mind and heart, and choose to love her, you will enjoy this book. Having been through the death of a marriage, I can remember times when my thoughts were just this disjointed.

My only real complaint is that the narrator always pronounces POEM as "pome". Since the word is used every few lines, it becomes irritating. I've heard better readers.

Unique

Jamie (the author) definately has her own unique style of writing! If you like fast-paced stories that move along...don't order this.
This tells of a woman who is writing a journal about the unfolding of a major event in her life, and how God orchestrated this to teach her to love. The woman's journaling jumps around a LOT. But it all comes together in the end.
I really enjoyed it....the creativity and uniqueness of the telling was refreshing. I just flowed along with it. I especially loved the ending, because it involved the movie "Babette's Feast," one of my favorite flicks.
So, only you can decide if it is right for you. Good luck..

Incredible Book

This book is one of the best books I have ever "read". And the narrator is wonderful, too. You will not be disappointed with this book. I wish this author would write more. Thank you Audible for giving us the opportunity to "read" as we drive down the road.

rambling

This book was a rambling account of an interesting life. The author evidently knew that it rambled too much, because several times in the book she admits it. Her tangents weren't interesting and distracted from the plot. A skip.

Boring and tedious.

Any additional comments?

The author tells you through this story that "it is her story and she will tell it her way" and that she does. Filled to overflowing with worthless descriptions from the color of a flower to how she felt when she looked at it. I found nothing redemptive about this book.

A Garden To Keep

She just tells the story. You keep waiting for some dialog between the characters but there almost none. Just the narator telling the story.

Not For Me

Could not even finish this book. Tried 3 time to finish it and the author take too many long departures from the story. Will not select this author again.
