About this listen

Hark! the Gerrard angels sing....

It’s Christmas Eve, and the Gerrard brothers mean to make the most of it. They’ve taken their wives, their children, and their three delightful sisters, and removed to the most wintery estate they have to set the scene. Determined to give their families the most perfect Christmas they’ve ever known, they go to unmatched extremes in their efforts, planning out every detail.

But there are surprises in store for all of them this Christmas season, some of which Colin and Kit just can’t believe. It’s a house filled with Gerrards of all ages, brimming with holly and ivy, all the festiveness of the holiday season, and much more. What could possibly go wrong?

A fun and enjoyable listen

I was curious what a story in this series might look like without romance being the central theme, and it delivered a fun, enjoyable story full of characters we leave come to love. It was all the things you love best about Colin and Kit.

I will say sometimes it dragged a bit, but overall it was a fun listen.

Wonderful wrapping up of this series! I love it! :)

Such a wonderful story about ‘family’, holidays and what is truly important! NOT the traditional romantic relationships of the series, but it is definitely a ‘love’ story - just a deeper ‘family-kind’ of love. I love that these books delve into life after the amazing moment of falling in love, merging traditions, and what it takes to keep that love alive - effort, forgiveness, kindness, playfulness, generosity…all the things that make ‘love’ what it truly is. Definitely a great book to read before Christmas. :)

A good short story

It is a good short story for those that know the characters of this series. Makes a wonderful way of letting us know how they’re doing.
Not a book on its own.

I loved this story.

I am often very sad when a romance story ends at the wedding. Life is just starting at a wedding. It is by no means the end of anything. While but a romantic romance story, this was perfect. The blending of so many details. And having survived rearing teenagers and many family gatherings. She is spot on with the erratic emotional 14 year old young women. Not as heartbreaking a story as the past books, but a refreshing story and I absolutely loved hearing stories that happen after the wedding. Especially the unique family dynamic of the Gerrard family.

Love this series

The entire series is fabulous. There’s not one character misrepresented and will make you and laugh. However this one had me laughing so hard I literally lost my breath. Definitely worth the credit and am looking to more books in this series.

NOT A GREAT BOOK - I HOPED IT WOULD BE BETTER

I have listened to all the books in this series that have led up to this Christmas book, and they were all fairly good. I have to say though that this book was SO boring that it was difficult to listen to the entire book! There was nothing exciting that happened in the book but was only about the two twin brothers and their families (children included) and how they planned to spend Christmas. The dialogue between the characters was so boring and predictable. I would NOT recommend this Christmas book to anyone.

Uncharacteristic, Petty, Laborious: disappointment

I’m only halfway through and i have to continually stop for breaks. This is NOT a “cute short story,” although it could have and should have been. Interactions are overall petty and degrade more than build them. The story drags. Sometimes extensive detail and participation in every conversation enriches the story and characters; sadly, this just draws out annoying interactions that seem to barely build the story. SO much pettiness from the two main characters i had grown to love and admire. This narrative just makes Collin and Kit seem terribly immature and a bit daft—which eliminates the honor in Colins character, and obliterates the finesse and poise that were innate to Kit. I love these characters and their families, and want to hear more!! But this has not been an inspiring narrative to further their stories. Perhaps it will get better and have a decent conclusion?
Ugh. I am so disappointed. I absolutely adore Rebecca Connolly’s work and stories. But this one is too much, and yet not near enough. Substantively missed the mark.

Can't finish

Having enjoyed this group of friends and their stories unfold, I'm not interested in listening to children and families bickering and causing havoc through several hours. In the middle of chapter three, I'm not motivated to go on. Maybe I'll try again another time. Love this fabulous narrator—just a few inconsistencies with voices in this installment. Probably too many characters to keep track of, especially carrying them over from previous books.

Just not this one

I absolutely love this author, and love this narrator... I just don't love this particular book. Recommend checking out all of Rebecca Connolly's other titles. This one just wasn't for me. I listened for an hour or more, then had to return. Will re-read one of her other titles, since I believe I own all of them.
