About this listen

“A story of money, family, who you can trust, and the extremes to which one will go for blood. I couldn’t put it down.” (Lisa Ling, host of CNN’s This Is Life)

Keep your family close and your enemies closer.

Beth is the darling of God Halsa, a pharmaceutical giant, and she’s got the outrageous salary and lifestyle to prove it. Until she lands in white-collar women’s prison, thanks to a high-profile whistleblower suit.

Sam, Beth’s husband, used to be the town’s most eligible bachelor, and he’s never had to do anything for himself. Until his wife goes to jail, and he’s left to raise two daughters on his own.

Lise, the au pair, is the whistle-blower. But is she? Everyone knows she’s not clever enough to have done it alone.

Hannah, Sam’s sister, is devoted to her family. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do for them.

Eva, Beth’s sister, is the smart one. (Read: not the pretty one.) Her life seems perfect on the surface, but sibling rivalry runs deep.

Martin, Beth’s brother, is the firstborn, the former golden boy turned inside-the-Beltway businessman. But what is he hiding?

Someone knows something. Someone betrayed Beth.

This is the story of the Min-Lindstroms. This is the story of the all-American family as it implodes under the weight of secrets, lies, and the unchecked desire for wealth and power.

A. H. Kim is an immigrant, a graduate of Harvard College and Berkeley Law, a lawyer, and mother of two sons. She lives in San Francisco with her husband. A Good Family is her first novel.

Wow. I couldn’t put it down.

I thoroughly enjoyed the cadence of the story and the fascinating characters. I didn’t want it to end. I hope to see it on Netflix soon!

Good book

Well worth the read. Love the plot twist. Didn’t really like the performance, but I’m not a fan of when the performer does so many different voices, just a personal preference. Doesn’t detract from what a great book it is.

rock star performance for rock star writer

this book was excellent from start to finish. Unique premise, creative but entirely plausible. Insightful exploration of family dynamics, and the concepts of duty, love and loyalty.

Engaging family drama

I enjoyed this suspenseful tale of jealousies and betrayal in a wealthy family of Swedish and Korean ancestry. The characters were well-developed, and the storyline kept me up listening till the wee hours. Highly recommended to lovers of psychological suspense.

very not good

The title alludes to the very transparent theme of “things don’t appear as they seem.” However, if after reading the first chapter you think that there is not a single likable character in this book, you should know that things are exactly as they seem. All of the main characters are unbelievable and irredeemable. There’s not a single character in this book that you can root for.

A Good Family might be one of the worst books I’ve ever read - and I read ALL of the Flowers in the Attic AND Twilight books!
