About this listen

“A heart-pounding thriller. When I Was You pitches two women with the same name against one another, and the rug is pulled out from under you the moment you decide to trust one of them.” (Sandie Jones, USA Today best-selling author of The Other Woman)

“Amber Garza has upped the game on the classic stalker novel!... A fast-paced, beautifully plotted book.” (Samantha Downing, USA Today best-selling author of My Lovely Wife)

You meets Fatal Attraction in this up-all-night story of suspicion, obsession, and motherhood.

It all begins on an ordinary fall morning, when Kelly Medina gets a call from her son’s pediatrician to confirm her upcoming "well-baby" appointment. It’s a cruel mistake; her son left for college a year ago, and Kelly’s never felt so alone. The receptionist quickly apologizes: There’s another mother in town named Kelly Medina, and she must have gotten their numbers switched.

For days, Kelly can’t stop thinking about the woman who shares her name. Lives in her same town. Has a son she can still hold, and her whole life ahead of her. She can’t help looking for her: at the grocery store, at the gym, on social media. When Kelly just happens to bump into the single mother outside that pediatrician’s office, it’s simple curiosity getting the better of her.

Their unlikely friendship brings Kelly a renewed sense of purpose - taking care of this young woman and her adorable baby boy. But that friendship quickly turns to obsession, and when one Kelly disappears, well, the other one may know why.

Nope

Just too much obsessive craziness for me . Not what my stress level needs right now.

WEIRD STORY!!!

This was a weird story and it flipped from one Kelly to the other and it was difficult to keep up with who was speaking unless you were paying close attention. I had to back up several times and re-listen. Until the end, I found it to be one note and VERY SLOW in so many ways. I can't in good faith recommend this book to anyone.

Romance gone bad

I truly enjoyed this book it’s been the first one that I’ve read of Amber Garza’s and I will read one again. I enjoyed it her twists her turns and the plot not being clear to the very end kept me in suspense and drawn in.

Don’t judge a book by the first few chapters!!!!🤯

When I started this book I was afraid that the obsessive writing style filling the pages with every detail of the main characters life was going to drag on forever - like a small child telling you a story filled with way to much information… however as the story unfolds you find that there is a distinct reason behind this as it shows the mind and characteristics of the main character - as this book progressed I became more and more enthralled with the twists and turns of this story! In the End it’s a 5⭐️ for sure!!

Captivating moments but dull in others

This book is an interesting listen. I almost didn’t get it because of the other bad reviews. This book was a bit predictable but there were still moments in the story I was shocked. The only flaw I would say about this book is the writer was too detailed and some parts of the book was boring because she kept going on and on about unnecessary information. Overall I did enjoy this book but I would not rave or recommend.

Keeps you guessing

Fresh story and the the whole book kept me engaged. They break it down into 3 parts which part 1 is the longest.

There was a moment in the middle where I wanted to hit fast forward.

Meh.. you can skip this one

I got this book on sale, after reading it I understand why.

You have this mystery of what happened to the main character. Why her marriage is failing, why her friends question her stability, why her son won’t talk to her. Then you are introduced to who is this other women with the same name and what’s going on with her. It’s just mundane. 3/4 of the book is her obsessing over the other woman. To the point I didn’t even care about who she was. I will say the ending wasn’t completely predictable.

The woman reading the story didn’t have the most enjoyable voice, Then when she’d read in the husband’s voice I wanted to stop listening completely.

Not the worst, but if you feel the need to hear the story, get the physical print.
