About this listen

In the follow-up to Lisa Desrochers' explosive new adult novel A Little Too Far, Alessandro Moretti must face the life he escaped and the girl he left behind.

Twenty-two-year-old Hilary McIntyre would like nothing more than to forget her past. As a teenager abandoned to the system, she faced some pretty dark times. But now that's all behind her. Hilary has her life on track, and there's no way she'll head down that road again.

Until Alessandro Moretti - the one person who can make her remember - shows up on her doorstep. He's even more devastatingly gorgeous than before, and he's much too close for comfort. Worse, he sees right through the walls she's built over these last eight years, right into her heart and the secrets she's guarding.

As Hilary finds herself falling back in love with the man who, as a boy, both saved and destroyed her, she must decide: Past or future? Truth or lies?

Exhausting at first, but picks ups finishing solid

We met Alasndro in the first novel where he falls in love with Lexi and on his way to be becoming a priest. At the end of the book he leaves Corsica and the book finishes with Lexi. In the second book we cut to Hilary and her complex upbringing and and Alasndro's role. This novel is 12 hours long and for the first six you are say 'get on with this.' The tempo accelerates in the next two and is very engaging at the end. If you can put up with the beginning, then you will enjoy this book.

Serena Daniels does a good job narrating. This is a challenging story line and good plot development with good character development. It is a better book that the first installment. Give it a try.

3.5 MORE TRAGEDY THAN THE FIRST ONE

Book 2 in this emotional and enjoyable 'A Little Too Far' series and it tells of a young girl, a young love and the heartbreak and loss she feels when her young lover abandons her and leaves her to fend for herself amongst teenage delinquents from an unsavoury Home and the life-changing consequences that follow. So the young girl learns to build a wall around her heart and let's nothing and no-one get through it..... that is until her young lover comes walking back into her life 8 years later and asks for her forgiveness.

Although Hilary lives together with her casual boyfriend she slowly connects with the beautifully handsome and charismatic Alessandro but a lot of secrets must be revealed before the ghosts and deeds from their traumatic past can finally be laid to rest. But they're both guilty of so much hurt and pain that forgiveness and closure doesn't come easy so they spend quality time together sharing experiences and laughter but will it be enough.

I enjoyed this listen but didn't love it as much as book 1 mainly because Hilary came with so much mental baggage whereas Lexie (from book 1) had her problems but was so likeable and humorous and you really felt the deep companionship and chemistry between her and Alessandro. But I didn't feel Alessandro and Hilary's chemistry or their passion for one another and there was a lot of sorrow-filled tragedy to wade through. However, Alessandro stole the show for me, not only is he sexy, fit and drool-worthy but he is also kind, caring, understanding, loving and thoughtful towards everybody and totally deserves forgiveness and to be loved.

Worth a credit? It's a well-written contemporary New Adult story that's got plenty of emotion, romance, sex, secrets, heartache and drama but despite everything the H/H manage to hold on to each other and reach for the HEA ending that they both deserve. So YES creditworthy but this is a follow-on story to book 1 and so isn't really suitable as a stand-alone listen - yes it would be enjoyable but you'd miss out on so much back history with the lovely Alessandro.
