About this listen

Know thine enemy ...

Evan Warlow is a man with enemies. As a DCI in the Dyfed Powys force, that comes with the territory. But when two of his most vicious critics are abducted and turn up dead in a macabre tableau, tough questions need to be asked.

The uncomfortable answers lead Evan and the team back to his roots and an old case that has haunted him for years. The deaths in the forest have all the hallmarks of a dangerous killer with no fear of consequences. And when one of Evan’s fellow officers becomes the next target, it’s clear that the murderer isn’t finished yet.

There’s a coppery aroma of vendetta in the air. Unless Evan and the team can get to the root cause of the killer’s twisted anger, there will be more deaths. And guess who’s next on the list?

This dark murder mystery full of action and pathos with a dash of dark humour will keep you guessing. Perfect for fans of Line of Duty, JD Kirk, JM Dalgliesh and Simon McCleave.

Well-drawn characters continue to bring me back

Even in the niche of British Isles mystery series there are lots of choices. This one is top drawer for me. Good writing, wonderful Welsh venues, excellent narrator delivering those lyrical place names and phrases with aplomb and intriguing stories. I eagerly look forward to more Evan Warlow.

Another great story and another thoughtful plot

This book is another great read by a great author. The story was slightly grotesque at times but was extremely well laid out and very interesting/captivating. The side subplots help to finally put to rest some of the questions from previous books. It leveled the playing field for some of the main characters. We got to see inside the lives of Evan and his staff and learned a bit more about their past and had a glimpse into the future of what the unit may become. I very much enjoyed this book and I look forward to the next ones to follow. Given how this series is going so far, I have a feeling that the stories won't last very long because I'll be through each book in a couple of days. Once I started listening to this book just like the last ones I did not want to put down my headset. Thank you for the escape and keep them coming.

Great story and narrator

I love this series! So hoping all the others come out on audiobook. I can’t wait to hear what happens to Evan next.

The series gets better and better

I will admit that the first in this series felt very slow in style and dialogue, though an interesting plot. I wound up skipping most of that one and was able to glean the important plot points in books 2 and 3 of series. Because with each subsequent book in the series - theres a mixture of the reader getting used to the characters and style, and the story lines and characters becoming more complex and compelling. This one was the best so far!

The characters are so well filled out they come alive and they story line is intriguing as always. Can’t wait to start the next one.

Also the narration is perfect to the characters. Love listening on audio.

Good characters, ok plot

The characters and their evolving relationships are a strong point. The plot is less interesting, but the team spirit carries it along.

I really wanted to like it

I have enjoyed the first five books a lot. I was looking forward to listening to this one. I cannot get through it. The KFC story line ruined this book for me. It didn't add anything to the plot, all it did was take away the enjoyment that I had listening to the other books. I hope the next one is better. I keep listening to this one for about 5 to 10 minutes at a time, that is all I can take of the character and voice of KFC. I really like the rest of the team and the previous books, so I still have hopes for the future books.
