About this listen

You can bury the bodies, but you can’t hide the truth.

When a landslip on Pembrokeshire’s stunning coastal path reveals the harrowing remains of two bodies, ex-DCI Evan Warlow’s quiet retirement is shattered.

As the original investigator for the two missing persons eight years before, Evan is recalled to help with what is now a murder inquiry. But as the killer scrambles to cover up the truth, the body count rises.

Working with a new young team, Warlow peels away the layers to reveal the dark and rotten heart that beats beneath the chocolate box tranquillity of an area renowned for its quiet beauty.

But does he still have what it takes to root out the monstrous truth before all hell lets loose?

The Engine House is the gripping debut crime thriller set in the heart of wild Wales from author Rhys Dylan. Perfect for fans of LJ Ross, JD Kirk. JM Dalgliesh and Simon McCleave. Celtic noir with a spatter of dark humour.

Excellent Welsh crime story

I love the Wale’s coastline and spirit of the Welsh people, plus an excellent, unanticipated story & ending.

A Welsh DCI Procedural

Now for something entirely different: A Welsh DCI Procedural.
It follows the usual pattern of trying to establish continuing patterns of behavior for the unknown suspect.

Joseph Tweedale is a good narrator.

Exactly What I Was Looking For

It's very difficult for me to find fiction I like. I'm not big on novels or series set in the sprawling metropolises where so many take place. I'm not fond of protagonists that are young and beautiful and somewhat saint-like. I prefer characters who could be real people with real problems related to both the direct plot lines and to their lives outside of that main story. I especially prefer characters who are somewhat weathered by life and have some experience under their belts. I prefer police procedurals.

This novel checks all my boxes and I'm delighted to learn it's the first in a series of novels that I'm looking forward to reading.

It's a good story with good characters, and it's well-written. And it has a sprinkling of humor, which is always appreciated.

Great mystery, promising new series.

Looking forward to the next Warlow book. The narrator and story were wonderful. So glad audible has started carrying this crime series.

Perfect combination of suspense and mystery by the author and performance by the narrator. Please, I want more from this duo.

Cool setting, but too slow and not that gripping.

I liked the setting, and the characters are interesting enough and well drawn, but the main story hobbles along at a very leisurely pace and is not particularly gripping - did not draw me in enough. Will have to give the rest of this series a miss. Good narration helps it somewhat.

Excellent!

Extremely well narrated. Being an American, enjoyed a contemporary crime case in Wales. Enjoyed the characters & learning how detectives operate differently there.

Very solid mystery. Good intro to series.

Good narration. Good story. Good mystery. First intro to these characters and this series. I liked the players. Solid beginning. Looking forward to more in depth character development in next book. Glad to have another British mystery series to dig into.

Brilliant

My hope is that fans of British & Irish crime mysteries
don't miss this book. Hats off to the Author.
Wish there was a 2nd book in this series available.
I have traveled the coastal path in this book which made it most enjoyable for the accuracy in the landscape.
