About this listen

Ambitious, attractive, and full of potential, five young college students prepared for the new semester. They dreamed of beginning careers and starting families. They had a lifetime of experiences in front of them. But death came without warning in the dark of the night. Brutally ending five promising lives, leaving behind three gruesome crime scenes, the Gainesville Ripper terrorized the University of Florida, casting an ominous shadow across a frightened college town.

What evil lurked inside him? What demons drove him to kill? What made him "A Monster of All Time"?

JT Hunter is a best-selling true crime author and attorney living in Florida.

Nature vs Nurture

When you take a look at the psychological aspects of Danny Rolling and the way that he thinks, processes information, and takes action on his thoughts, you would easily think that he identifies with a lack of emotional depth and reasoning behind all of his decisions, however, it is the exact opposite. In most cases when it comes to humans having psychological issues it’s almost always related to childhood trauma. For instance in this case when Danny Rolling was just an infant, his father was abusive to him and his mother and was always in and out of his life. When Danny became a little older in his childhood his father introduced him to the murdering of animals and taught him everything he knew about murder. Clearly, Danny Rolling was made into this monster by lack of nurture.

William Shatner Reads the Danny Rolling Story

The story is great. The author covers every detail about each murder scene at no expense to the reader. The complaints about the narrator are 100% worth heeding, though. "The cop cars.... came to a... screeching halt next to the... getaway vehicle." It's almost like he's turning the page after every fourth word. He also can't pronounce words correctly. On several occasions, he mispronounces the word opined by pronouncing it opeened. The narrator really does channel his best William Shatner impersonation. I was still able to make it to the end of the book, so the narration really wasn't that big of a deterrent for me, but I did laugh out loud at parts of the book because of his inflection and cadence. "He punched his grandmother........ right in the face."

Intriguing Content, but sub-par Narration

Hard to listen to...Narrator incessantly mispronounces important names, and places repeatedly throughout the reading...He continuously places the incorrect 'accents' to pronunciations and inconsistent and routinely interjects emphasis in the wrong place in sentences...This makes it very annoying to listen to for 8+ hours.

If you are going to narrate a book for commercial purposes, then you should commit the time to research the correct pronunciations of key, repeatable names and places related to the content, and practice and rehearse so that it doesn't sound like you are reading the information for the first time in your performance.

EVERY gruesome detail...!

Not one to disappoint, the author(s) does it again! Yes, I WANT my true crime to leave NOTHING out. Gimme alllll the details! And they sure did! Woooeee. Its almost like you are actually there descriptive wise. I haven’t seen many books out there about Danny Rolling, so I was THRILLED to get this! For me, this ones a keeper in my “crime classic” library.

factual but the narrator.....

I lived through this.. Rollings tried to hit on a friend and I at a club and when we tried to leave he followed, we had to get the doorman to walk us to our car. The content is fine and seems to be fairly accurate. However the narration is AWFUL! it's worse than the shy guy in 10th grade reading his book report to the class. And for the record Mr How did you get this gig narrator it's NOT Al ah chew aah...its Ahhh latch chew ahhh

we must talk about the narrator

I was unable to finish this particular book due to the poor narration, this guy actually says "opinned" instead of opined, and other words he struggles with and his vocal inflection is like that of Christopher Walken. I love Christopher Walken but I don't want him reading my story to me in that slow-paced voice of his. listen to the documentary on YouTube for free would be my recommendation and that's what I did. If they ever do a story about Christopher Walken call this guy but other than that, I do not recommend.

Narrator is awful

Could only listen to 2 chapters. Worst narrated audiobook I’ve ever experienced. The pronunciation of Alachua County was horrific
