About this listen

A Passage to India is one of the greatest novels of the 20th century. This enthralling tale takes the reader to India amid one of the most exciting eras of history. During British Imperial rule, India was changing and so were the people who lived there. E.M. Forster opens up a whole new world of exotic landscapes, misunderstandings, and passionate love affairs.

When Adela, a British school teacher, and her companion travel to India, they set out on an adventure of a lifetime. While in the company of the charming Dr. Aziz, Adela decides to explore the mysterious Marabar Caves. What begins as a stunning journey into the real India, a misunderstanding ruins the entire trip and threatens to destroy the honorable reputation of Dr. Aziz. A Passage to India is a tale as timeless as love itself and just as exciting.

Excellent story deserving of a better narrator

This story is beautiful. I read it decades ago, as well as The Raj Quartet, and I enjoyed those books immensely then, and found this story still to be excellent. It is a shame that the narrator was so inadequate for the task. He had distinct accents, but not distinct voices, so that it was hard to tell if Adela or Ronny or Cyril or Mrs Moore was speaking. Similar problem for the Indian characters.

Poor performance of a good book

The book is a classic and of much current and timeless interest but the performance is so weak that it ruins all the subtleties of the narrative
