About this listen

Clarence, ninth Earl of Emsworth, sank back in his chair, looking like the good old man in a Victorian melodrama whose mortgage the villain had just foreclosed. He felt the absence of that gentle glow which customarily accompanied the departure of one of his sisters. Lord Emsworth needed Galahad. There are tricky corners to be rounded, and assorted godsons, impostors, and pretty girls to be paired off. Fortunately, many years’ membership of the Pelican Club means the Hon. Galahad Threepwood is able to keep cool, stiffen his upper lip, and always think a shade quicker than the next man.

One of my favorite audiobooks of all time

The readings by Nigel Lambert are my favorite Lord Emsworth audiobooks. I’ve enjoyed all of P.G. Wodehouse’s books they’re all good, and this one is great.

Well-turned phrases are the highlight

I think reviewer John nails it. To get the most value out of this sequel, listen to the descriptive phrases and perhaps try them out loud yourself. There’s probably a thousand, often one after another
“…his eyes bulged in the method popularised by snails…”. was LOL for me. Different ones will strike different people.

Nigel L. is a good narrator with highly embellished Lord ‘Em. but his voice choice for the Duke is just too brutish. Ouch.

Ecxellent

This narrator is incredible. It's hard to make Wodehouse better than he already is...and yet Nigel Lambert may have done it. The American accents are my only complaint, but not bothersome enough that the rest didn't compensate.

Such an enjoyable listen

Escape to yesteryear at Blandings Castle. Endearing characters Galahad and Lord Emsworth will make you feel like you are a welcome part of the family and long for the English countryside.

Not one of Wodehouse's best

Don't get me wrong. It's fine so far as it goes but It's not great. It feels like he was trying to put a few to many clever plot twists in and (although they all rap up) none of them seem to land with the signature Wodehouse punch.

Delightful British comic genius strikes again!

This is yet another splendid and delightful book by the incomparable P.G. Wodehouse. His dazzling mastery of the English language is part and parcel of the genius and ingenuity of his stories, so wonderfully funny and told with a brilliantly light-touch sophistication. Those who seek sour cynicism, look elsewhere. These are the stories of a genial comic genius whose delight in life shines through every single page, which will shine through you too if you have a good and kindly heart.

The British narrator is superb, bringing the narration and all the characters to sparkling life, giving each one a pitch-perfect distinctive voice in what can only be described as a tour de force. Bravo!

A Perfect Reading of one of Wodehouse’s best

I wish Nigel Lambert had read more of Wodehouse! He captures the characters and the comedy brilliantly, never putting a foot wrong. A great story of trouble at Blandings and the Hon Galahad Threepwood coming to the rescue. One of the author’s best.
