Wonderful performance of a true classic.

The Wind in the Willows is a story perfect for all ages and the language is just lovely. This particular version is perfect. Mr Hordern' voice, theatricality, even the speed which he reads is spot on for this classic. I honestly cannot think of anything that would improve the hours I spent listening.

Great Voices- Low Voice

Charming story. starts qusint and becomes quite the adventure. Characters are imaginative, and they drive the story.

Good book to put yourself and your child asleep to

didn't like it when I was a child, still don't like it. From a Child's View; Toad was wasteful, stubborn, rude and whining. I would be called this when I fit the desription. Ratty was kind, resourceful, helpful and shared Not so often. From an Adult Point of view; found the story dragging. I skipped a few parts because they were sooo slow.

Astounding performance.

Michael Hordern is exquisite as the reader. He is far and away the best reader of what I consider one of the best books ever written.

Toad gets himself into trouble

A few times I laughed at what toad was able to get away with. I was genuinely intrigued at what happened on the island when they found the lost critter. Badger was my favorite character.

Listened to this version multiple times

I loved this narrator. His cadence was very comforting to me. He was very good at individual voices for each of the characters.

A classic read with charm

Would you consider the audio edition of The Wind in the Willows to be better than the print version?

No. Nothing can replace the cognitive experience of reading printed words. However many of us do have learning disabilities and audio books are a lovely solution. In addition , a book of this quality would be ideally suited for younger readers to listen to as they develop their reading skills. I listened to it while recovering from heart surgery when fatigue made managing a book far too difficult. The lovely gentle adventures and friendships , the beautiful descriptive language - it was all very calming and restorative.
