Publisher's summary

In Agatha Christie’s classic, A Pocket Full of Rye, the bizarre death of a financial tycoon has Miss Marple investigating a very odd case of crime by rhyme.

Rex Fortescue, king of a financial empire, was sipping tea in his “counting house” when he suffered an agonizing and sudden death. On later inspection, the pockets of the deceased were found to contain traces of cereals.

Yet, it was the incident in the parlor which confirmed Miss Marple’s suspicion that here she was looking at a case of crime by rhyme. . . .

Agatha Christie's finest!

Excellent plot with many twists and turns. This is one time that I couldn't identify the murderer until the very end. Enjoy!

Lots of Village to Choose From

This is one of my very favorite Miss Marple books. She is so calm, intense, sweet and hard. She's able to see when the innocent are used. And when the guilty appear worthy. I love the narrator, easy to listen to.

Fun story but ending disappointing

I enjoyed the story and mystery but was disappointed in how it ended. Don’t want to spoil anything specific but the ending basically solves the mystery but doesn’t have a final scene with actually confronting the culprit.

This makes the ending unsatisfactory for me and leaves a sense of wanting to know what happens to several characters at the end when the person is apprehended (if they are at all or if they escaped).

Classic Christie

This is classic Agatha Christie - a large home full of often unlikeable relatives who all have secrets, and a clever murderer using a nursery rhyme as inspiration. I wouldn’t say it’s one of her best, but it solid, cozy, and enjoyable!

One of Christie’s best

Richard E. Grant is a fabulous narrator but this reading of MIss Marple is a bit odd if you’re used to Stephanie Cole or June Whitfield, whose recordings are unfortunately abridged.
His voice is mellifluous and is great for falling asleep.
I am going to try him in another genre.

Worth more than Sixpence!!!

This book is engaging and thoughtful, but you should be familiar with the children's rhyme.
