About this listen

Matthew Scudder is about to face every cop's worst nightmare: James Leo Motley, psychopath extraordinaire.

Twelve years ago Matthew Scudder lied to a jury to put James Leo Motley behind bars. Now the ingenious psychopath is free, and the alcoholic ex-cop turned private investigator must pay dearly for his sins. Friends and former lovers - even strangers unfortunate enough to share Scudder's name - are turning up dead because a vengeful maniac is determined not to rest until he's driven his nemesis back to the bottle…and then to the boneyard.

Once I started I couldn't stop!!

Block is agreat author and Barrett does a great job in performing the reading of this book. If it were a movie it would have to be rated at least PG13, But it is a good thrilled!

A Ticket to the Boneyard

I so enjoyed the plot and the narrator that I am going to add the other two Scudder books narrated by the same narrator that I don't have.

Fantastic read for a fantastic story.

What did you love best about A Ticket to the Boneyard?

Block has never failed to impress me with his evolving look at Matt Scudder. So many readers have attempted these books and I've liked them all (Block himself did one and it was pretty good). Joe Barrett might be the best yet.

What does Joe Barrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Great, subtle accents and a warm, welcoming voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes - as it was, I took it to the gym and worked out more than I would have.

Good narration decent story

How could one top the previous book in the series? I don’t think you could. I feel like it was blocks finest effort to date. This story, while falling a little short of the last, still delivered. Matthew’s relationship with Micky continues to grow and develop more depth. I find that really interesting. Some of the experiences described i felt on a visceral level. I found myself clutching various parts of my body as the story progressed. Yes, that believable. Some people may say that this story was a story of revenge, but it was not. This is a story of self-preservation and self realization. Joe Barrett did an awesome job of reading as usual. I will say that I had not noticed his New England accent in the last story but it came through on this one in a noticeable way to this former New Englander. I recommend this, and if you’re in the series, you’ll most likely not be disappointed.

I’ve Heard All the Stories

This one tied up the loose ends he kept talking about in his other books. Now, I know a lot more. Poor Matthew. I’ll see what’s left.

Another Matt Scudder great story...

I know am biased : i am firmly convinced that Lawrence Block's Matthew series lays on the the top of the thrillers stories of the past 30 years . I've read all the books in "real time" (i.e. when they were first published) and now i've the pleasure to discover them in an audio format. The books have not aged a bit as Matt Scudder's stories provide what one expects from a great thriller : an intriguing and tense plot, engaging characters , great atmosphere and a tension that builds up as you turn the pages . They are well written , captivating and make you feel a great empathy with the lonely hero , Matt Scudder.
Do not miss it !

What happened to Lawrence Block’s witty repartee?

This seriously oppressive book lacks any of the usual Block humor. I think I will give up on Matt Scudder.

Great series

Love this series. I avoid stories about alcoholics . It was highly recommended by a friend and since it was an Audible plus offering I gave it a try. Narration. is great and Block is a great writer. Parts of the books that
would normally bore me when written by others really keep my interest. One thing that makes the stories wonderful is the insight into alcoholic recovery Crime stories you can get your teeth into
