About this listen

Experience this special edition of The Black Echo, Michael Connelly’s award-winning crime novel narrated by Titus Welliver, star of the Bosch series on Amazon Prime Video - includes an exclusive bonus interview with the author and the actor featuring insider info and more.

For maverick LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch, the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal...because the murdered man was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who had fought side by side with him in a hellish underground war. Now Bosch is about to relive the horror of Nam. From a dangerous maze of blind alleys to a daring criminal heist beneath the city, his survival instincts will once again be tested to their limit. Pitted against enemies inside his own department and forced to make the agonizing choice between justice and vengeance, Bosch goes on the hunt for a killer whose true face will shock him.

"Michael Connelly is the master of the universe in which he lives, and that is the sphere of crime thrillers." - Huffington Post.

Top Tier Performance

Titus Welliver has portrayed Detective Harry Bosch brilliantly on the Amazon show. His comfort in Harry’s skin and the way he navigates Harry’s moves and thoughts and those of the characters around Harry, really elevate the narration of this book.
I imagine it’s akin to Kathy Bates narrating Misery, if that makes sense.

A great book in its own right has been made even better. Will definitely listen again.

Dream come to life

I’ve read Michael Connelly’s novels for 20 years, when the Bosch series aired on Amazon I was excited. It was perfectly executed down to the sax music. I came to love Titus’s portrayal. Now we’ve made it full circle back to Audible. I look forward to going back to listen to every book I’ve already read in the Bosch series, now in “Harry’s voice”. 10/10 would recommend. Can’t wait for the next one!

Starts of slow but makes up for it ...

Having first seen this character on the Amazon Prime serial which I binge watched, I HAD to listen to this.
The beginning is slow to a point where I was thinking of stopping by the 1 hour point. Luckily I did not.
Unlike in the TV serial, Bosch is an anti-hero. Not liked and respected by everyone, in a manner that put me off. Not the kind of person you would get to like (and that was the way all the way to the end), even though you could admire his doggedness.
Once the story gets going, its gripping.
A lot of pieces in this story were scattered around in the TV series, in different formats (adaptation does that I guess).
Overall the story is a rich one - lots of characters are woven together, in an intricate plot. The grittiness of police work is laid out for all to see.
Irving is shown to be a scheming character that you would not like (unlike in the TV series where he portrayed sympathetically). Clearly Eleanor Wish is something else in the book..

So, overall, a fantastic experience.

Still fantastic after all these years!

Loved the story all over again with Titus narrating the role. It only seems natural at this point to hear every story through Titus' narrative as he just brings this character to life.

Really Good. Well worth the time

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and narration as well as the interviews. I haven't had time to get into the show but now I think I'll read more books first and then check it out. The show sounds great but I always prefer reading the book version first.

A Classic Reborn

Nearly 30 years after it was published Michael Connelly’s The Black Echo stands the test of time.Having the TV incarnation of Harry Bosch Titus Welliver reading this special audio edition only enhances what a great story this book truly is. The attention to detail into the thought process of an investigator and the mundane workings of a police investigation are on point. So too are the departmental and inter agency politics that are as real today as ever and make this an authentic read/listen. Whether you read the book many years ago or are a fan of the TV show this version will entertain you and I highly recommend it. Thank you Michael Connelly and Titus Welliver
