Publisher's summary
New York Times best-selling romance author Jude Deveraux makes her debut in the world of mystery with a story of old secrets, deadly grudges, and an improbable group of friends who are determined to uncover the truth regardless of the consequences.
Sara Medlar is a household name in romance, with millions of books sold. But lately, retirement has been boring her, and she's found herself back in her hometown of Lachlan, Florida, remodeling the grand, old mansion she'd admired as a child. It's much too big for her alone, but she'd die before letting anyone in town know that.
Then Sara's niece Kate is offered a job in Lachlan - a start in what could be a very successful career in real estate. She accepts immediately, but with so little saved up, she'll have to approach her estranged yet incredibly famous aunt for a place to stay while she gets herself settled.
But when she arrives at Sara's home, she finds she's not the only long-term houseguest. Jackson Wyatt already has his own room, and though it's impossible to deny his good looks and charm - he's clearly got her aunt wrapped around his finger - she's also never met anyone who irritates her quite like Jack does.
However, when two skeletons are accidentally uncovered in the quiet town, this unlikely trio is suddenly thrust together by a common goal: to solve a mystery everyone else seems eager to keep under wraps.
United by a sense of justice and the desire to right old wrongs, Sara, Kate, and Jack will have to dig into Lachlan's murky past to unravel the small town's dark secrets and work to bring the awful truth to light.

Story
When the world is brought to a standstill in the early days of a pandemic, Etta Wilmont finds herself suddenly stranded in Kansas City. Desperate to secure a roof over her head, Etta crosses paths with Henry Logan, a lonely older man in need of a caretaker. His invitation for Etta to stay with him seems to be the solution to both their problems—and maybe the spontaneous adventure Etta’s life has been missing. As they settle in together, Etta indulges in Henry’s library. The compelling historical accounts of life in the Midwest soon inspire vivid dreams of 1870s Kansas City.

Story
Welcome to Grace Valley, California - where blood runs thicker…ties are stronger…and love is all the more sweet. Visitors to the town often remark about the valley's peace and beauty - both of which are plentiful. Unlocked doors, front porches, pies cooling in the windows - this is country life at its finest. But visitors don't always see what lies at the heart of a community. Or just beyond.… June Hudson grew up in Grace Valley, the daughter of the town doctor. Leaving only to get her medical training, she returned home and followed in her father's footsteps.

Great new series!
A Willing Murder is the first in a new series by Jude Deveraux and I'm hooked! Sarah, her niece Kate and Sarah's house guest Jack are my new favorite amateur sleuths! After Kate moves to town for her new job, she moves in with Sarah and their lives will never be the same. This unlikely trio has to go back in time 20 years to help solve a murder and that experience helps the three of them bond. These characters have a rich history that leaves plenty of room for relationships to grow stronger and for more cases to be solved.
What I enjoyed about listening to this book on audio was the narrator's accent and how she brought out the sense of humor in these characters. I look forward to the next one!

Wonderful, creative mystery story
This was a great story that held my interest all the way through. The characters were very real and their relationships were developed flawlessly. This is the first of a three part series and while this story is complete, it leaves enough loose ends to make the reader want to get the next book. The narration was great Susan Bennett's voice is easy to listen to and her inflections are enough the clearly differentiate the characters but not distract from the telling of the story.

Phenomenon- couldn’t turn it off!
This was a very entertaining audiobook - the story was engaging and the narration was a perfect fit. Jude Deveraux definitely needs to follow this path.

average, unfulfilling ending
this was my first book by this author, and it's not my favorite. I felt they were very typical characters, and the ending felt rushed.

Pleasantly Surprised!
This is the first Jude Deveraux book I've listened to and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The story was fun and unpredictable. I plan on purchasing more in this series.
