About this listen

Solving crimes at a crusty old Florida inn was NOT in D.C. urbanite Lilly Livingston’s 5 yr plan.

But when she discovers she is the executor of a forgotten stepfather’s will and is gifted Magnolia Manor, in little Drifter’s Cove, Florida, things get a little off track.

The town coroner reports her stepfather died of natural causes, but Lilly is not convinced and joins a motley crew of locals to solve her first case.

Leaving D.C. for good, Lilly’s excited to start her new small-town life and reopen the inn. But, a murder at the grand opening of her newly inherited inn wasn’t exactly the kickoff Lilly was hoping for.

Distraught when a guest goes missing, and a local fisherman pulled up an unidentified body in his fishing net, accusations fly, the inn’s initial warm fuzzies fizzle, and Lilly found herself knee-deep in another murder.

Finally settling into Drifter’s Cove life with this murder mystery behind her, Lilly’s on her way to making the renovated inn an upscale destination and plans her summer kickoff party. But as the posh party ensues, personalities clash, tempers flare, and a guest ends up dead.

My first and last AI book.

The story line was great. Loved the characters. At least I know to never purchase an audio book again with AI reading. Emotionless, monotone and just weird. If it weren't for the storyline I would have stopped listening probably a quarter of the way through book one. I hope this isn't going to be the new trend.

virtual voice

The book might have been good except for the boring monotone of virtual voice narration. I am definitely not buying anymore books with virtual voice. Don't waste your money unless you read it yourself and not an e book.

Virtual voice

I HATE the virtual voice narration! It’s hard to distinguish between characters. Whar should be a question comes across as a statement. Very monotone. Bring back real narrators!

AI generated voice.

That this AI generated voice did a lot better than a different book I recently read.

AI Narration is as you would expect

I managed to gnaw thru to the end of the first book. I wonder if this was writer by AI as well as the narration. Every gadget and cliche in mystery writing appeared in the first two chapters. The plot was ridiculous and the story horribly executed. If it weren't freeI would be angry.

AI hard to understand with names, words mispronounced, no inflection. very monotone. either get it right like real humans or forget AI

I’m struggling!!

The AI voice, while pleasant, just doesn’t do it for me. It sounds like the AI wrote the book too ☹️. What’s supposed to be humorous and funny turns into clinical and robotic. This is just chapter 1, I’m struggling to get to chapter 2. 🥴

The book covers drawn you in but this is no southern gothic mystery

AI narration is the WORST. I will never listen to another audible book read by a bot. The “mysteries” are cozy enough if you like that genre. Just not enough action for me. Nor are the characters that appealing that I care to read another in this series.

AI doesn’t work

The AI narration is poor, missing proper inflection and nuances in the stories which are somewhat unrealistic, and predictable.
