Critic reviews

"Berry shows us the psychic costs of misplaced family pride and social rigidity, and yet he also celebrates the benevolent blessing of familial love. This is simple, soul-satisfying storytelling, augmented by understated humor and quiet insight." ( Publishers Weekly)

Recollections of a tragedy/memory

Another great story by Wendell that illustrates how our tragedies inspire us to learn the truth and satisfy our curiosity.

Insightful and soothing

I wish that I had come across this book a long time ago. Wendell Berry has managed to explain grief through a child's eyes in a way that I've not seen before. The soothing and steady reading voice of Michael Kramer kept the tone of the book serious, while, adding to the overall effect of the experience.
