About this listen

Three dead. Shot point-blank. A hot summer day just got hotter.

Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Agent Doc Hunter had a golf game scheduled. Doc was a good golfer. Very good. Thinking about going pro. But now all of that had been put on hold because three people on a farm got themselves shot and Hunter's boss had decided he needed to be the one to investigate.

Doc wasn't happy about the assignment, and was even less happy when he finds there is a cover-up and a suspect list that only seems to keep growing. On top of that, he has a killer who has a lot more killing to do.

As the body count increases, the media, the sheriff, and Doc's boss all increase the pressure on Doc to stop an angry killer with a growing appetite for more blood.

Readers of John Sanford, Michael Connelly, Jeffrey Deaver, Lee Child and like authors will enjoy this fast-paced mystery.

Virtual voice

The story line was good, but the Virtual Voice narration was very monotonous and sort of annoying. Took aeay s lot of the enjoyment of listening to the book.

No more AI

This book does not read high on the suspense factor. Add times, the plug can be predictable. Though there are not a lot of twist interns the imagery was well written as well as understanding the depth of the characters.

The story was suspenseful, but spoiled by the AI reading.

The story kept me listening, the writing was good. The reading in AI does take away from it, though.. there is no inflection in AI which is a subtractor to total enjoyment of listening to a good book.

Great storytelling and character development.

The use of virtual voice is frustrating. Words are mispronounced often It distracts from the flow of the story. I’ve listened to every book CE Nelson has written and I love CE Nelson, I do not like the virtual voice. With this many references to the ME and it’s pronounced me is sad. That’s one of 100’s of examples I can give you.

Disliked the narration on an already weak story

Dialog was weak, tired of all the killing with no real substance behind the story. Absolutely hated AI narration

AI reading detracted from storyline

I feel bad for the author, the storyline was good but the reading by AI was terrible, No inflection, no emotion, lifeless. I’m sure many may start it but not finish.

Too much Needless Cursing

I like books by CE Nelson but the more he writes (each new book), the more cursing is added. The stories would come across just as well without any of it.

AI Voice is Miserable

I had to stop listening because the voice monotony made it impossible to enjoy at all.

Worst book I’ve ever finished

Honestly who on earth chose to publish this book? It is a terrible book just absolutely awful writing. It’s like it was written by a 15 year old boy. So many sexual innuendos and sexual depictions of the women’s bodies, regardless of the age of the woman in the book. Many characters late teenagers, early 20’s being described rather brazenly by this male narrator. So obscenely distasteful. AND THIS IS COMING FROM AN AVID SMUT READER

So much unnecessary filler in back stories and side stories that do not build the characters narrative, nor do they offer any value to the current subject. They’re adhd ramblings that should have been edited out of the book by a good editor or publisher.

I finished the book because I have to DNF but it wasn’t worth reading. It was difficult to follow, so sloppily written.

Also the ai/auto narration is horrible. A lot of weird volume and intensity fluctuation. It can’t distinguish between certain dictations or words, example: putting - to place somewhere vs putting - an act in golfing. .
