About this listen

Ken Bishop needed to kill his siblings.

Well, not all five of them. But at least three. Maybe four. He needed the money from his mother's estate to pay off his gambling debts, and he needed it in a hurry. So, he killed a sister.

Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent Danny Carlisle investigates the murder, a woman at a nursing home with only days to live. A woman suffering from dementia. The family said the death was a blessing and the police wanted Carlisle to let it go, but Carlisle just could not let someone get away with murder. It just wasn’t right.

Bishop knows it wasn’t right, and he feels bad about killing his sister, but it had to be done. And now, he must pick the next sibling to die. But there is a problem. Someone is doing his killing for him.

Two murderers, unknown to each other, focused on the same targets, at the same time - an unexpected and interesting premise

AI narration - terrible and difficult to listen to! Emotional inflections are either on the wrong words or absent altogether. Coupled with the irregular pace of speech the quality of storytelling is ruined.

Hard to listen to despite a decent story line - AI narrated.

Virtual voice comes off as rather lazy. No nuances put together at all. Mid grade at best

Narrator AI bad enough to detract from a so-so story

I really like the characters in these stories. I do feel the end of this story was a little bit rushed and wasn't as solid as I would've liked. I do look forward to reading more in this series.

A lot going on to keep you in suspense

The storyline is mildly interesting, but the new AI “reading” is horrible. The inflection in the voice is not realistic and it’s actually bad enough to be distracting. This is the second book I’ve listened to that has used AI presentation. Neither performance would match a well read book.

Not what I was expecting.

The storyline was suspenseful with lots of great twists. It kept me guessing. However, the AI narration was terrible. It often came across as monotone and lacking expression. The voice lacked inflection and intonation especially during dialogue amongst characters. I found it hard to follow the conversations which made the flow choppy and confusing. This was unfortunate because it was difficult to follow the story and I often became disengaged and needed to frequently rewind to understand the plot. I would not recommend this with the AI narration.

Great Story with lots of Twists

I almost stopped listening to this story 20 times because the virtual voice is awful. No emotion at all; completely monotone; so very difficult to listen to a book without any type of emotion. I won’t listen to another book narrated this way

Good story:awful narration

I DO NOT LIKE the computer 😒 doing the narrative! It cannot differentiate the proper use of a real person's emotions. Also, anything that has a period after a suffix, as a doctor or St. Paul, the computer acts like it's the end of a sentence and then there is a break in the conversation and it continues as if a new sentence is starting! Bring back real people!

The story was very interesting and the plot was ingenious!

I feel the AI ruined the story for me, the way it was read was awful.

I had a hard time didn’t like the generated voice read

Great story...well written. Virtual Voice didn't do the author justice. It doesn't know the difference between a comma and period.

Virtual was distracting.

This was a good story with a lot going on. There was some nice Throughout. The narration did cause it to be a bit challenging to follow.

Good story, lots going on by the narration was poor
