Publisher's summary

The second book in a thrilling sci-fi action adventure, set on Donovan, a treacherous alien planet where corporate threats and dangerous creatures imperil the lives of the planet's colonists. New York Times best-selling author W. Michael Gear returns us to the world he laid out with such sure purpose in Outpost.

The struggle for survival sharpens as resources dwindle, technology fails, and the grim reality of life on Donovan unfolds. Supervisor Kalico Aguila has bet everything on a fragile settlement far south of Port Authority. There, she has carved a farm and mine out of wilderness. But Donovan is closing in.

When conditions couldn't get worse, a murderous peril descends out of Donovan's sky - one that will leave Kalico bleeding and shattered. Talina Perez gambles her life and reputation in a bid to atone for ruthlessly murdering a woman's husband years ago. Ironically, saving Dya Simonov may save them all.

Lieutenant Deb Spiro is losing it, and by killing a little girl's pet alien, she may have precipitated disaster for all. In the end, the only hope will lie with a "lost" colony, and the alien-infested reflexes possessed by Security Officer Talina Perez.

On Donovan, only human beings are more terrifying than the wildlife.

Incredible!

This series, so far, has been one of the best I have ever heard! Absolutely has me comtinually tramsported and living on Donovan!
This narrator, too, is one of the best I have ever listened to and, incidentally, the best female narrator of them all--by far! Simply excellent! I hope she narrates book 3. I hope there are many more books after that, btw, and a trilogy of movies would be very well-received, I am certain!

Terrific book

These books are so exciting and well written. Different from ordinary life on planet books. Read them and you won't want them to end.

Abandoned (Donovan Trilogy #2)
by W. Michael Gear

the audible version has a poignant quality a longing not found in reading the story. the characters have more depth and feeling. the narrator able to bring out the resolution and acceptance of the characters.

In its own concept the stories of Donovan shows how you can connect to another ideology through addiction, attraction and exchanging ideas. The reader is connected and drawn into the story, like a spiral of a one way nature. The reader finds themselves addicted to the story, longing for one more page, one more moment on this chaotic and vivid world. I have been waiting patiently for the second book in the series. While Michael teased that he feels the second story was so above any others he had written he was scared that he could not elevate it more for the third book. I wanted to know what happened when I finished Outpost. Now I will wait again for Pariah just to see how the story will go. The vivid nature of Donovan, the remarkable characters, the dynamic interactions between the world and its characters is addictive. I feel like I have been remarkably changed by this story, this series, that an inner Quetzal has begun to talk within me, about how remarkable and encompassing this story is and how I just need a little bit more. Am I addicted, yes… will I find a resolution to this desire to know more, only the next two books can tell.  But knowing the remarkable ability of Michael Gear to bring characters to life, I know, he will create so much more than I will ever anticipate. Now I need to read this book again. To see the vivid story line, the colorful characters, and remarkable science fiction world that is Donovan.

Good Book

This book is basically a continuation of the people of Donovan striving to survive despite numerous hardships. New characters are introduced. I loved Talbot, Kylee and Rocket. Hated Spiro. There is a twist in the plot with some of the new characters that I found very intriguing and sad. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing about the Freelander (the ghost ship) which is what I was really looking forward too. So that was very disappointing. Also, there was a ton of unnecessarily long descriptiveness which really added nothing to the plot. Just made the book extremely long when it didn't need to be that long which is why I only gave 4 stars. I'll get the 3rd book but if it's just another book about the struggles of the people of Donovan, I will be extremely disappointed. I WANT MORE ABOUT THE FREELANDER!
