About this listen

Jean Pierre de Caussade's accounts in this work present the case that the present moment is a sacrament from God and that self-abandonment to it, and its needs, is a holy state. In the theological climate of France at the time, this belief was considered close to Quietist heresy. In fact, because of this fear, the work was kept unpublished until 1861. Abandoning yourself to divine providence is an example of excellent Christian work which will help the listener gain a deeper understanding of God and his teachings.

divine providence made obvious

After years of Carmelite studies, and several prior attempts at abandonment, this audible presentation finally gave me a clue! Thank you who make books available this way. Reading is not often and no longer possible.

Fantastic

Easy listening. Well done. The work is inspiring. A great approach to a typically difficult topic- mysticism

Best book i've ever read

This book is simply amazing and has taught me how God is present in all things. Good, mundane, difficult, ect God is always present wanting to be with us. We simply need to acknowledge his presence and trust. What an inspiring and impactful book. I found myself pausing the audiobook all the time to reflect on what was just said. For such a deep book, the narrator reads it rather fast. Some may like that but I prefer a little more pausing. Its like drinking a fine wine quickly... I would prefer to have more time to taste and savour it.

Reads a little too fast but I slowed it down.

super amazing profound awesome just wow content. it took me some time to get used to his voice, again a little too fast but once I slowed it down and it was fine. This is one of those books I will listen to over and over again so that I make oh, by the will of God, live in his will and that my heart may desire him more and more and more.

Monotoned spiritual platitudes and ejaculations.

this is a hodgepodge of nice but incoherent thoughts and prayers. Not what you would expect face from the title. It is a less effective and less meaningful version of the Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis, which is outstanding.

the reader is uninspiring and monotone.

Narrator ruins a Christian classic!

The narrator ruined this for me as he spoke way too quickly. Spiritual classics such as this need to be read more slowly to grasp the points being made and he read it in what to me is even too fast for a normal conversation. I tried slowing the speed to 0.75 but that seemed too slow and labored. Also mispronounced words such as specious which is, to me, very unprofessional. Audible needs a new audio book for Abandonment to Divine Providence.

Not the same as my print version

There's a 20 hour version and this is only 3 hours, same title and same author. I also got the 20 hour version and that one starts out verbatim like the print version I have of this book by TAN publishing. This 3 hour version here does not start out the same, so I'm thinking it's abridged or something and I'm returning this one.
