About this listen

Escaping from a madman should have been the end of her nightmare. Instead it was only the beginning....

Lizzy Gardner was just 17 when she was kidnapped by the psychopath known as Spiderman, a serial killer terrorizing her California hometown. Imprisoned and tormented for months, Lizzy narrowly escaped with her life and Spiderman vanished without a trace. But if she thought he would forget her, she was dead wrong.

Fourteen years later, Lizzy is a successful private investigator and self-defense instructor. Wracked with guilt over being the only victim to survive, she's devoted her life to helping others protect themselves from the horrors she endured. But a single phone call brings the terror of the past crashing back. Spiderman has returned and this time, he has no intention of letting Lizzy go. So begins a chilling game of cat-and-mouse, a terrifying, heart-pounding hunt for vengeance that only one will survive.

Scary opening<br />

This story scared me so bad in the beginning that I had to put it down for a day. There are compelling scenes throughout the story and a few interesting twists. The only thing I disliked was the robotic cadence of the narrator.

Struggling Narrator

I was looking for a new series but I don't know if I'll be back for book 2. I made it past the gore with ease but story line was a little weak. I think I'm just looking for something more involved with smart people. I'm not really interested in a woman that has police at her disposal but still runs off alone and get caught by the bad guy.
The narrator was just awful. I understand she reading a book but the over annunciation was just too much. I almost stopped listening after two hours because I was so annoyed with the the narrator clipping words.

Easily predictable.

The intertwining of all the characters was obvious. There weren’t any surprises and there was no suspense. I finished listening in hope that there would be a surprise or two coming. But there weren’t.
It’s an ok listen if you have time to kill but I wouldn’t recommend it in good conscience. I was hoping for more.

A suspenseful and disturbing tale.

I picked up the first three in this series after reading a few reviews and seeing the great price. I listened to it today all in one sitting. It is a highly tense and suspenseful mystery. It is often very difficult to take -- the torture scenes are stomach-turning and deeply disturbing. As another reviewer said, this book is very much like the television series Criminal Minds. It doesn't feature profilers so it isn't similar in that way, but the type of criminal, the type of crime is virtually the same. Every episode of Criminal Minds I feel slightly ill and yet I keep going back. Why? Because it is well-written and well-acted, and it seems as though it does a good job delving into the psyche of these type of humans. This book does some of the same.

What could make it better and merit a fifth star? For me, it would be a deeper analysis of the work of Lizzy and Jared. An in-depth view of the thinking of the investigators as well as the criminal. It would break some of the tension and allow the reader to escape from the muck.

Kate Rudd does the book justice. However, it was difficult to distinguish between the various voices. Overall I would say it is an average acting job.

Had to give it a 4 for a great story.

Great story but the drawback that takes away from this is some really stupid dialogue. I can't give away the story so you'll have to hear it for yourself. Did you ever while watching a movie or reading a book tell the character they're stupid. It's here. Good book otherwise.

Completely invested in TR Ragan!

This is the start of my third series of TR Reagan’s heroines. I started with Faith McMann which I loved. I am excited to see what the Lizzy Gardner series will offer as I am waiting for the next Jessie Cole book. Abducted was a great listen and Kate Rudd is always on point!

Okay but too many characters and subplots

Too many characters who pondered their screwy parents and lousy childhoods. We even get to sit in on therapy sessions for crying out loud!Too much backstory which stifled the suspense and padded the pages.
