A personal look at a crime of passion describes an FBI agent's successful career, family life, and extramarital affair that ended in murder, and the guilt that drove him to confess in spite of his impenetrable government shield.
In a true story of crime, guilt, and conscience, a model agent's illicit involvement with an informant leads him to commit a crime that reveals all the workings of the human heart - and the dark side of the FBI.

Joe Sharkey's masterful writing shows how, in the words of S M Eisenstein, the most interesting question in the psychology of art is neither theme nor content, but how this theme or content becomes, from an "object" of reality_an object of art., how an 'event' becomes a 'work.'Excellent Listen

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
well read like a documentary. enjoyedAny additional comments?
enjoyed the book very much. had a hard time to stop listening. It did tend to go into much detail in some areas about how certain folks felt or reacted to something that is well know by the reader but that is the only thing that took away. the rest is just fantastic.great story, well read

Incredibly tragic story very sensitively handled by a fine journalist. There were no winners in this tale, and no real villains as there often are in true crime stories, only a terrible collision of personalities that crushes the lives of all involved in a moment of lost control. The people who lived this tale and the world they inhabit are brilliantly, heartbreakingly described. I hope the film, starring the wonderful Emilia Clarke, serves them as well.Excellent journalism
