Publisher's summary

We will find joy in the midst of the aching.

When his oldest son was diagnosed with severe autism, Pastor Jason Hague found himself trapped, stuck between perpetual sadness and a lower, safer kind of hope. This is the common struggle for those of us walking through the land of unanswered prayer. Life doesn’t look the way we expected, so we seek to protect ourselves from further disappointment.

But God has a third path for us beyond sadness or resignation: the way of aching joy. Christ himself is with us here, beckoning us toward the treasures hidden in the darkness.

Aching Joy is an honest psalm of hope for those walking between pain and promise: the aching of a broken world and the beauty of a loving God. In this place, rather than trying to dodge the pain, we choose to feel it all - and to see where Jesus is in the midst of struggle. And because we make that choice, we feel all the good that comes with it, too.

This is Jason’s story. This is your story. Come, find your joy within the aching.

Most honest and refreshing book on the subject

As a fan of books by Brene Brown and others who tackle honesty and vulnerability, I found this book the best at expressing pain and hope. Wonderful read, wonderful narration, and completely hopeful.

Aching Joy is a MUST BUY if you have ever had an unanswered prayer.

I love the way Jason vulnerably talks about things that I know we have all felt. He does such a great job of being real and helping the reader know it’s okay to embrace the messiness of navigating the heartache of unanswered prayer and the questions that come with that. I love how he masterfully weaves in the message of hope even in the painful times.

Aching Joy is a MUST BUY if you have ever had an unanswered prayer.

Honest, insightful, and beautifully written

In the pages of Aching Joy Jason Hague allows us to look into his very personal struggle to come to terms with the painful realities of unexpected hardships, disillusionment, and unanswered prayer. There are no sepia tones or softened edges here, instead Jason takes the reader along to witness the story of his wrestling without hiding the ugly bruises and the acquired limps. Jason not only puts his own story on display but he makes room for us to place our own stories and heartache in between the lines of Aching Joy. As we watch beauty and hope emerge from the ashes of the life Jason expected to have, our own stories get carried along, and we too can start to see how our journeys can be reframed, and redeemed by a God who is still faithful through it all.

ESSENTIAL FOR ALL

I enjoyed this vulnerable story and the encouragement it instilled in my soul. I do not have an autistic child, but I do have many unanswered prayers. Hague lead me down a road to HOPE. Thank you Hague Family for your transparency. The words were beautiful, inside and out. You created a compassion in me for all types of struggles! I shed tears in the chapter of the penguins and laughed out loud as well. I AM SO THANKFUL GOD LEAD ME TO THIS BOOK. Keep up growing that joy Jason, Jack and family! Amazing read!
