Publisher's summary

Special Agent Ryan O'Connor's life is exactly on track-she's with a wonderful woman, and she's doing something she loves. Sure, her boss can't stand her, but she figures if that's her biggest problem, she's pretty damn lucky. She should have known it was too good to last and that when fate finally slapped her, it would do so hard enough to leave a mark.

When Ryan's ex-girlfriend, Special Agent Allison Reynolds, suddenly reappears in New York, her carefully constructed world is thrown into chaos. As they're forced to work together, Ryan is compelled to confront several realities that she wishes she could avoid. One of which is that it's terrible to mix the past with the present. The other is that it's not only the past that paints the present with lead.

Overall Good book!!

I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator was good as well as the story line. There were a few moments where i was annoyed with the main character for being so long winded but i get it was essential to understanding her true character. Overall, the book was good and i'd look forward if there was a sequel.

great character development

looking forward to more from this writer. my only beef from the story was unfinished story lines without a promise of a sequel...maybe the book had an afterword that the audio version excluded. my beef with the narrator was the snobby voice she gave to Allison. It should have been reserved for a character you weren't supposed to like.

This is why a woman will never be a good president

Wasn't enough action. Just hard for me to believe being apart that long could make a
person act like that on the job.

Frustrating to the max!

The only reason I finished this was because I was working and couldn't wait for something else to download. If not for that I would have shut if off and deleted it after the first chapter. Just to be clear this has nothing to do with the authors skill as a writer nor was there crazy grammar or Ignorant plot holes. No what I knew after the first chapter was the path the romantic arc was going to follow; and I did not like it one bit.
The romantic arc was by far the most frustration thing I have ever grit my teeth through. Imagine one of the common romance themes. A girl whose hear was shattered by her ex still can't open her heart to anyone else until that one person comes along and helps her realize that the ex had run away I'm fear not because anything she did. Then just as she begins to open up the ex shows up and causes enormous rifts in the girls life pledging changes and a new found commitment. The girl has to struggle between her obsessive need for the ex or the quiet unrelenting love of the new partner. We all know how this typicly turns out. Because we are all sad when the girl fist picks the ex, then we triumph when she realizes her mistake and fights for the one she really loves... This is not that story.
Instead imagine that the girl gives in to her constant obsession with her ex and repeatedly pushes away, ignores and borderline cheats on the one who loves her. That is what this story is about. I was growly and tense my entire shift listening to Ryan as she obsessed and turned her belly up and ignored everything else. I was so frustrated and sad for the girlfriend that when the second love scene came around I was too frustrated to appreciate how well written and steamy it was. The author tried so hard to suddenly turn the girlfriend into the bad guy that I was outraged on her behalf through most of the story. It seemed to me that the author actually went back and thought, hmmm the only way the audience is going to turn against the girlfriend is if she cheats before Ryan has a chance to(cause we all knew that was inevitable at the rate she was going).
Another thing that bothers me is that the author set up this twist of horrible(if obvious) betrayal and all these suspected terrorists and yet all that is so secondary to the frustrating romance arc that we don't get to see any of it resolved or even really explored.
