Publisher's summary

Discover the southern life of Bernadette Butler, along with the eccentric and lovable citizens, along with all the fur babies, who live in Sugar Creek Gap in this new southern cozy mystery series by USA Today best-selling author Tonya Kappes.

Mail Carrier Bernadette Butler makes sure she checks on all of her elderly customers on her mail carrier route during the colder months. It makes her feel good and lets face it, she's trying to keep her mind off the feelings she's having for her deceased husband's best friend, Mac Tabor. Which makes putting everyone before her is easy.

Until she notices one particular customer's dog is on the loose, Bernadette takes the dog back and something isn't right. The door is open. Bernadette goes in to check on her customer only to find him murdered!

Bernadette knows someone knows something about the murder in the small knit community. Now that she's helped solve one murder, she can't resist to try her hand at it again...of course not without the help of the Front Porch Ladies and Vince!

GREAT READ

I TRULY ENJOY THIS COZY SERIES, AND TONYA KAPPES IS QUITE THE MASTER OF RED HERRINGS. BERNIE, MAC, THE PORCH LADIES, AND THE REST OF THE CHARACTERS ARE SO RELATABLE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE ANY SOUTHERN ROOTS. MOVING ON TO BOOK 3.

I love Tiffany as a narrator

I wish that Tonya’s books didn’t dumb down the main character as much just to tell a story. Women don’t have to be depicted as blundering idiots - or wrong half the time - to be successful.

Bernie solves another murder!

This was a fun story to listen to. Tonya Kappes always knows how to tell an entertaining story. Bernadette is an excellent mail carrier as well as a good amateur sleuth. After many red herrings and lots of shenanigans going on, Bernie is finally in the same room as the murderer and there's a scuffle that could have ended badly if not for Angie, the sheriff, coming to her rescue.

I love stories with animals and this one has two: Bernie's cat, Rowena, and Lee's dog, Buster who Bernie takes in after Lee isn't available to care for him any longer.

Once again Tiffany Morgan's performance was great and made it a pleasure to listen to this story.

A Hoarder and a Homicide

Mail carrier, Bernie Butler is middle aged (in her fifties), a widow, and loved by all the people on her rural Kentucky route. She’s kind, even though life has thrown her plenty of lemons. She delivers more than the mail to her friends along the way each day. To Lee Macum, the hoarder and avid stamp collector, she brings treats to his dog, Buster, walking through his mess of a yard, then stepping over the clutter and stacked boxes inside his house. To the dismay of Carla Ramey, who is on a campaign for Sugar Creek Gap to win the Make Kentucky Colorful Spring Campaign, Lee Macum’s yard remains a total wreck, despite her efforts to get him to clean it up. This is such a fun series, with people that I immediately took to. Being a Kentucky native myself, didn’t hurt one bit. 😊 I love cozy mysteries, and this one fit the bill nicely. The Front Porch Ladies were a favorite. I will definitely continue the series.
