About this listen

Afraid to Scream

Others may dread the chill of winter, but he relishes it: the way the frigid water preserves his victims, the feel of their icy skin beneath his fingers…. And soon the world will see their beauty - and his vengeance.

Afraid to Run

The town of Grizzly Falls is on edge in the wake of a serial killer, and Detective Selena Alvarez is no exception. That case was solved, but a new nightmare is about to unfold. There are two victims so far - their bodies were frozen solid and deliberately displayed. Both are women she knew. And each wears a piece of Selena’s jewelry….

Afraid to Die

Selena’s partner, Detective Regan Pescoli, and the entire department are on the case, as is P.I. Dylan O’Keefe - a man Selena got too close to once before. But this killer already knows too much about Selena’s secret terror, her flaws, and the past she’s tried to outrun. And soon he’ll show her that she has every reason to be afraid….

Another Christmas Serial Murderer

Grizzly Falls is a small town in Montana. There is a serial murderer who kidnaps young women, whose hair is coloring is brunette and all of the women are pretty. He and his wife attend the same church as some of the women. The killer has intruded into their private lives. He's aware of their movements, where they'll be at a particular time and plays the role of someone who needs help.

The serial killer preys on women who are good and well meaning people. He'll be pulled over to the side of the road, snow falling hard from the sky. with his head under the hood of his truck, looking at the engine. A woman stops and goes to see if she can help the gentleman out. That is one of the ways he's used to pull the women into his truck and initiates fear tactics that are cruel and meant to frighten them. Some of the women know him from church and feel okay when they recognize him, which can prove fatal.

The women are then taken to his chamber of death, where he wastes no time. He puts them into a cell like structure that prevents their escape. He then begins to drip icy cold water on them in preparation for his art sculpting.

The time is Christmas and he tries to find places that are related to the season. When the frozen, sculpted women are placed, he derives great pleasure when the person who finds it becomes agitated, scared, screams and gets the attention of other's. Sometimes, he'll be in the crowd with other's at the scene. He gains a certain perverseness watching the people around him. He's disguised so that anyone taking pictures will not pick him out of the burdening crowd.

The reader will also learn some very important facts about Selena Alvarez's personal life. I've read the books in order and I have been patiently waiting for some answers to my questions.

There is also Reagan Pescoli, who does provide the reader with some laughs. I think I know what would make her life easier, such as moving in with her steady boyfriend of long standing. He has asked her many times to move in with him and to bring her son and daughter with her. He would like to see if her life could become more structured and if her children could learn how to live a normal life within a structured environment. Reagan has to decrease her stress, which hurts her ability to create what could be considered a normal, whatever normal is, home life, that would give her what she wants, a relationship with her children and respect, less screaming and more hugs.

Pescoli and Alvarez do work well together as detectives. They are always there for one another. Their ability to be detectives, while working with one another, has been proven to solve many crimes. The sheriff's department personnel seem to work as a unit. There are times when there are disagreements that cause tension but all things usually work their way clear by the end of the day. However, as we all know, not all people like one another but as long as it causes no problems at the office, things will be good.

I've enjoyed reading the series. Reading them in order has been good for me. The narrator, Natalie Ross, does a good job with the characterization of anger, sadness and many other feelings. I know which character is speaking. The characters continue to develop with each book that I read. Trying to get into the mind of a serial killer continues to prove quite difficult for me. Their minds are definitely twisted. The story is exciting to read. The plot is definitely on track. The book is an easy listen and enjoyable.

It's A Good Thing LJ Is Clearly an Animal Lover

I (again) loved the book. She keeps me on the edge of the seat until the end. But I AGAIN hate the fact that so may people smoke. This isn't 1960. And I hate every child in ALL of the books. I blame the way she has them parented, of course, but just listening to the bratty little monsters makes me wanna put the book down. Regan needs to grow a spine, kick the one kid out, ground the other one, stop living in the past and move in with Santana and be happy.
