Publisher's summary

In this deviously volatile, deliciously creepy standalone suspense novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson, the sole survivor of a brutal family massacre must uncover the shocking truth about the fateful night that left her forever marked…

Has she already had her final chance to be the final girl?

All her life, she’s been the girl who survived. Orphaned at age seven after a horrific killing spree at her family’s Oregon cabin, Kara McIntyre is still searching for some kind of normal. But now, twenty years later, the past has come thundering back. Her brother, Jonas, who was convicted of the murders, has unexpectedly been released from prison. The press is in a frenzy again. And suddenly, Kara is receiving cryptic messages from her big sister, Marlie—who hasn’t been seen or heard from since that deadly Christmas Eve when she hid little Kara in a closet with a haunting, life-saving command: Don’t make a sound.

As people close to her start to die horrible deaths, Kara, who is slowly and surely unraveling, believes she is the killer’s ultimate target.

Kara survived once. But will she survive again? How many times can she be the girl who survived?

Repetition, Repetition, Repetition

The author's excessive use of character discussions to summarize the story became tiresome. Another reviewer suggested reading only the first three and last three chapters, which essentially captures everything. Save your time. With a different execution, it could have been a compelling story. Pun intended.

Horror

Only Lisa Jackson can make each chapter full of suspense, suspects, suspicious, and keep you guessing till the climax ending. Heart wrenching and excellent book.

Not much depth

The story was a good idea, but the characters and details were shallow. Lots of unnecessary info while very little actual details to give depth.

Too much repetition….

Good story line but too long and too much repetition. I liked the twist and turns.

not my favorite, annoying characters

The main character is childish and annoying. I spent most of the book fussing at her antics.

I don't exactly know what to say!!

I love Lisa Jackson but this book wasn't the best of the best. It was good with the exception of overusing adjectives and adverbs. I am not a writer but as a reader/listener there is times when over use of description can be frustrating and this was one of those times. I still recommend the book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery but be prepared for the frustration. The main character was beyond annoying at times but that's the way the story goes. I wasn't shocked by the ending but the story line held my interest.

The Girl Who Survived

The plot was Interesting. It did keep you wondering, and engaged. I however disliked the main female character. Her personality was very difficult to find likable, Due to her ridiculous freak outs, and plain out just being a bit dense. I would recommend this book for those who need an easy listen while engaged in another activity.

Run, Kara!

Holy cow. Where do I start?

Kara's family was brutally murdered when she was a child. Her brother was convicted of the massacre. She was the lone family member, although her sister Marlie has never been found. Twenty years later, it's like deja vu all over again...

If you're looking for a fast-paced, mind-blowing, out-of-the-box whodunit, this is it. No one will figure this out completely. In fact, even the author is kind enough to have the cops break it all down for us at the end, in case we blinked and missed something. Yeah, it's that kind of thriller. If you're the kind of reader that always has to find the killer well before the end, this one may drive you nuts as the pendulum swings throughout this story. He did it. He didn't. She did it. Maybe the little girl did it. Wait, it was the butler! Oh. They didn't have a butler.

I found the audiobook to be fun, well-narrated, and slightly mind-boggling as it all worked out. Sounds like good entertainment to me.
