About this listen

"I have no idea what is truth and what is fiction. I'm all I've got now. I can't trust anyone."

World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They've survived for the last 30 years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there.

At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life.

When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.

Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she's trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.

great story for teens

as characters decline to connect the dots. I grew more and more disinterested in the book but kept listening to see how it ends. the book cuts off awkwardly to set up the next book, which I won't read. I think a 14 year old girl would love the series however.

Great Story!

It was slow going at first, but overall the book was great! Good performance and kept my attention throughout :) I downloaded the second book as soon as this finished!

Loved it!

My kids asked to listen to it every time we got in the car. It is a great story line and continually suspenseful. There is some swearing in it which I was very aware of because my kids were listening but that is the only negative about it.

Fun Read, but beware the ending

This is a fun, YA take on the post-apocalypse that explores new, though familiar, territory.

The main characters (Juneau and Miles) are interesting enough, and character development of them is decent. Though there are supporting characters, they are largely described from the voices of our protagonists, so the development of supporting cast is largely nil.

Juneau's journey/quest and her acquaintance and growth with Miles are compelling, and despite the book being a bit cheesy at times, I was intrigued to see where it was all going, and resolution of the numerous secrets woven through the story.

Which is where this book, by itself, falls apart. This book does not finish. It does not end. IT. JUST. STOPS. It's pointless to read this book unless you intend to buy and read it's companion, which I'm now compelled to do.

Thus my review. The narration and characterization by Emily Rankin and Graham Hamilton are solid (with him being the better of the two, though she's still quite good). The writing by Amy Plum is decent. But this book, judged on its own merit, it is utterly incomplete.

surprisingly very good read .

What made the experience of listening to After the End the most enjoyable?

This was a big surprise for me. Once I read and heard the storyline I was very captivated from the moment I started to listen to the first 5 min. So I thought I have a credit I am going to try it. Well , 9 hours later I realized that I read it straight through and could not put it down. Now I haven't ever written a review before but, I had to with this book. It has such a great storyline and the plot is amazing. The constant adventure was invigorating. I thought I had it figured out but the twist and turns were keeping me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed the main character Juno so much. She is so brave and yet so sheltered by what her who life was about.

What other book might you compare After the End to and why?

Divergent, Agenda 21, These books all have that what if we did this instead of how we really live. The idea of what can happen when you experiment on humans. Like we become the lab rat.I like to hear how other people think about what life would be like if we did this .

What about Emily Rankin and Graham Hamilton ’s performance did you like?

I am a very avid Audio Book reader, reading about 3 to 4 a week. I think they did an excellent job and sometimes this is hard to find.I like the fact that they used two people to share a storyline not a man trying to sound like a girl or a girl trying to sound like a man . I dislike this as a practice. They did it just right.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I saw the book and gave it a chance and I couldn't put it down.I never herd of Amy Plum the author before this.

Any additional comments?

I was upset how the book ended. I really hope it doesn't take too long to write the second book. I know I will definitely be waiting for it. It's not a bad ending but I just wanted more.

She left the Village

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not. It was an okay read.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Don't know.

What does Emily Rankin and Graham Hamilton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Individual voices were nice and broke up the story well.

Do you think After the End needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Seems like that was where the ending ended.

Any additional comments?

It was an okay book. Nothing gained nothing lost.

Hated the ending...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I get wanting to leave the reader on a cliff hanger but this was just a bit too much. It also really got crazy a time or two in the story line with the magical powers and conspiracy.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No.
