Critic reviews

"In this series opener, Hodgetts (Imposter, 2019, etc.) adroitly constructs a labyrinthine plot of the best kind - complexly entangled enough to foil readers' anticipations but not convoluted or impenetrable. In fact, the story races to a stunning conclusion at a relentless pace, a peculiar but artfully plausible tale.... An ingenious crime drama seamlessly woven into the backdrop of post-World War II England." (Kirkus Reviews)

I loved this great story. I like how she weaves the mystery but doesn't leave you hanging for too long. It had all my favorite things. WW2, aristocracy, mystery, questionable parentage, family secrets, romance, murder, danger and true love! I got choked up at the end. The narration is very good and you know just who is speaking by the wonderful storyteller.

Great story!

An interesting and intriguing storyline with twists and turns making for an entertaining read. The author narrates the story in her lovely British accent and pulls off the American accents quite well. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Well done!
