About this listen

Historical Adventure Novel

A thriller adventure book set in Seattle and the Alaskan wilderness during the early 20th century.

Prepare for an exhilarating ride into the treacherous edge of humanity and nature’s sweeping wilds. Follow Ned Cornet on this gripping journey, as he transforms from a reckless son of wealth into a hardened survivor in the unforgiving Alaskan territories.

Ned Cornet's life of indulgence crashes down after a near-fatal car accident. In a final attempt to reform him, his father, Godfrey Cornet, proposes an adventurous fur-trading expedition in the Alaskan wilderness. Alongside his fiancé Lenore Hardenworth and her ailing mother, Ned embarks on this fateful journey aboard the rented schooner, “Charon.” Promised high profits from trading fine silk dresses for expensive furs, the expedition quickly morphs into a harrowing struggle for survival against man and nature.

Their journey takes a darker turn when Doomsdorf, a brute with a fearsome grip on Hell Island, captures Ned and a new companion, Bess. As they endure grueling exploitation, they hatch an audacious escape plan, only to be thwarted by Lenore’s betrayal. The subsequent battle of wits and brute force pits Ned’s survival instincts and trappers' skills against Doomsdorf's raw power, culminating in a fierce showdown that leaves Doomsdorf incapacitated. Ned and Bess find temporary solace, awaiting rescue in the harsh Alaskan wilderness. Their ultimate rescue symbolizes not just their return to civilization but Ned's rebirth into a stronger, refined self with Bess by his side.

Experience the thrilling transformation of a man in the wild, the heart-pounding escapes, and the unforgiving beauty of the northern wilderness. This tale is an epic testament to resilience, courage, and the enduring spirit of adventure.

Trying to get through this

Book started out with great promise…but 12 chapters in there is too much blathering…way too much description if that’s possible..also not at all believable..

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
