Newly proclaimed king over all fey, Aleks Mickelsen is a changeling with a lot on his mind and many enemies breathing down his neck. The fey realm of Niffleheim is rife with danger everywhere he looks. A terrible dragon by the name of Fritjof is intent on causing chaos, pitting the fey against each other and starting an interspecies war for the chance of gaining his freedom. Aleks’ biological father wants him to abdicate the throne before his coronation, or else. All that, and he has to impress the father of the girl of his dreams. What’s a bloke to do?

Choose Your Own Adventure

Aleks has many choices to make in this part of his story.Choices about his nature, his friends and family and his people. There is a great deal of backstory to get through in this book, a lot of untold and unfolded history. There are also many twists and turns with friends that make this book chaotic.

Luckily the narrator's ability to vary and define her voice allows for some reference points of clarity amidst all the chaos.

Honestly this has been my least favorite book in a so far stellar series. There is almost too much political (and faction based) information that the author has to unpack in order to explain the story.I feel like much of this information should have been given in smaller portions in the two previous books, or that this book should have been broken into two books. The backstory and intrigue in this installment, although rich and full seemed to overshadow the story of Aleks and the continuing stories of his friends. I found myself having to go back multiple times so that I made sure that I could keep everything straight. Despite that however the book gives Aleks a lot to do and a lot to grow into. I'm fascinated by where the story will proceed to next.

Some nice hours of listening...

... again. Ever since I listened to the first book of the series, I have loved the Zaria Fierce books. This is the latest book in the series - and it was so much fun to listen to.

I liked the story very much - all the books have a fairytale feeling to them I think. Also, it is simply incredible how Michele Carpenter gives an individual voice to every single character in the story.

Highly recommended.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Wonderful Series for the Entire Family

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This book finishes Aleks' adventure and brings to a conclusion the decision that has haunted him for the past few books. There's a lot going on with this book - some political intrigue and balancing the different factions, family issues, lots of action, along with some romance all told very creatively and with good humor. All the books have a wonderful fairy tale feeling to them and are a great series for the entire family.

The narrator, Michele Carpenter, is really a superb narrator. She is the same narrator for the entire series. She does different voices for the various characters and creatures making it very easy to differentiate the speakers. She adds an excitement to the story and is a real asset to this series.

Love the series!

Both my 6 year old and I have loved every book in this series. It has opened her up to other epic fantasy series, but she periodically just wants to revisit the Zaria world when we are in-between on other stories. She now enjoys not just fantasy, but specifically ones with strong female characters and diverse friend groups.
