Tess didn't have much to miss when she was stolen from Earth. She left behind a lackluster job and a piece of trash, cheating boyfriend. It was tragic really, to lose her life before it had ever begun. Kidnapped and sold into slavery, she quickly found herself with a one-way ticket to prison. All hope of escape was lost. At that point, it was about survival and never once did she imagine that in the depths of an alien prison ship, her life would finally take shape.

Hope was a thing of the past for Crius as well. Years had gone by, each chipping away at his soul. He no longer felt like the man he once was. He felt more like a monster, pushed to the brink in order to protect a dorm that didn't care one way or another. Then she walked in, a ray of light in a dark life. She saw past the beast. After everything, she could still see him.

And what do you do when you find a reason for living? You fight. You fight for love, and you fight for family. When you know what real loss is, you can't bear to lose that which counts. When push comes to shove, Crius and Tess draw a line in the sand and they plot an escape from Alien Prison.

This is such a fun book in this series. It’s sad because they are in prison but wow - it’s full of action, romance, amazing side characters, humor and more!! This series would be such a fantastic movie. I wish more people read and really enjoyed this series for how good it is.

Alien Prison - Tess and Crius

What a fantastic adventure with humor, found family, and yes, alien love. The majority of this book happens in one section of a prison and without any interaction with the previous MCs from this series.
In exchange, we’re given Jarvian, the best wingman/pirate/big brother anyone could hope for.
That’s trading up, in my opinion, as the last few full length books have been rather vanilla and the ladies not very likeable.

The romance was a slow, slow burn, so if you’re all about the insta-nooky, then this isn’t the book for you. On the other hand, if you want to feel deep, and hard, then Tess and Crius’s story is not to be missed.
This works great as a standalone, so dive right in.

👩‍🚀 The Heroine: Tess

Tess is an independent human woman trapped in a painfully stagnant life on Earth with her deadbeat boyfriend, Derek—a man who won’t lift a finger, not even to help her bring in groceries after a long shift and still expects dinner to be waiting. Grieving the recent loss of her beloved grandmother, Tess’s emotional breaking point comes when Derek moves her grandmother’s ashes without a word. Later, while honoring her grandmother’s memory, Tess learns Derek has been cheating. It’s a gut-punch wake-up call that forces her to reevaluate everything.

👽 The Hero: Crius

Crius is a Vindari male who once hoped for salvation as his planet collapsed. Suspended in cryosleep on a vessel bound for a new world, his fate takes a tragic turn when the ship is ambushed, and he’s sold into slavery. Now imprisoned aboard a Krux ship—a merciless hive-minded species that exploits prisoners as disposable labor—Crius serves as a dorm guard, maintaining order to spare his fellow inmates from the far crueler hand of the Krux. Stoic, strategic, and bound by duty, he’s survived years of captivity… but his new assignment threatens to upend everything.

🪐 The Story

Tess’s abduction begins with an eerie storm and a radiant blue light. She awakens caged among alien prisoners and quickly realizes her new reality is anything but survivable. Sold to a monstrous insectoid bidder at auction, she’s delivered to the Krux prison ship, where alien slaves labor under constant threat.

To Crius, new arrivals mean instability—especially when one of them is a fragile-looking human female. Beautiful and visibly terrified, Tess sparks immediate concern. Crius, alongside his loyal friend Jarvian, must balance protecting her from predatory inmates without exposing her to greater danger by seeming too protective. Language is a barrier; without a translator, Tess is lost in a sea of voices she can’t understand, heightening her isolation.

👍 What Worked

• 🔥 Tess’s arc delivers emotional resonance. Her reflection on nine years spent in a toxic relationship adds realism to her growth. She doesn’t start strong—she becomes strong.
• 🛑 This book sidesteps common alien romance tropes. Tess is sold as a slave, not as a pet or sex object, grounding the story in gritty realism.
• 🌌 The prison setting is vivid and immersive. The world-building is meticulous, from alien politics to Krux prison life.
• 😈 Jackie, the other human prisoner, is delightfully vile. An antagonist who adds real tension.
• ⚔️ Action and intrigue are nonstop, keeping the tension taut throughout.
• 💔 The portrayal of captivity and hopelessness is stark and poignant—Tracy Lauren doesn’t flinch from showing the cost of survival.
• 💫 Jarvian is a standout supporting character—loyal, clever, and emotionally anchoring.

👎 What Fell Short

• 😤 Tess’s repeated forgiveness of Jackie feels unearned. It undercuts the impact of Jackie’s villainy and Tess’s growth.
• 🏡 The escape from the hive ship felt overdue. A longer glimpse of their new home would’ve offered satisfying closure and a breath of hope.

🎙️ Narration

The dual narration enhances the storytelling beautifully.

• Gabriel De Leon’s deep, smooth voice brings Crius to life with expressive intensity—sexy and commanding.
• Eva Caine continues to grow on me. Initially lukewarm, I now find her voice engaging and easy to listen to. She captures Tess’s vulnerability with subtlety and strength.
