About this listen

The affair is a military wedding. The groom's parents are the Bradwins, one of the oldest and most distinguished families in Virginia. The family head, General 'Boss' Bradwin, is a famous army officer. Of all his prized sons, his youngest, 'Clipper' Bradwin, is the most promising. First in his class at Blue Ridge Military Academy, graduate with all honors, he is now entering into holy matrimony and then into wartime service of his country.

What will begin, however, with the solemnity of his marriage vows will end in the echoing screams of the damned - an ungodly spectacle of spilled blood and sobbing, throat-aching terror. For this distinguished family is like no other on earth. There is a curse on their blood. Their family history is rooted not in magnolia and honeysuckle, but in darkness and demonism, in frightening forces beyond their knowledge and control.

Their august history begins not in antebellum mansions, but with supernatural sorcery in the ancient rites and rituals of dark African jungles. There is a curse that grips the Bradwins from generation to generation, from horror to bloody horror, and that climaxes in a spine-chilling nightmare of black occultism and blood vengeance.

Still great after all these years

What made the experience of listening to All Heads Turn When the Hunt Goes By the most enjoyable?

This book was one of my favorites years ago when first published. I was concerned that the narrated version would not hold up to the written version but it was extremely well read. The use of the N word may upset people, be prepared.

Any additional comments?

Farris never received the fame he deserved

Audiobooks make everything better

When I first read "All Heads Turn When the Hunt Goes By" by John Farris, I was a kid. I have to say that the first read confused me. I didn't understand a lot of what I had read. I didn't hate the book; I just wished I understood it. When I saw the book on Audible, I remembered reading it as a kid and not knowing for sure what I had read. Listening to the audiobook was a great idea because I now could comprehend the parts of the story that had alluded me the first time around. I'd listen to it again just for the train scene alone. Audiobooks make everything better.

What gives with the editing?!?

The story was ok, the performance was spotty...you could tell easily when the narrator had to go in and re-record something, totally different sound quality. But what made this so unlistenable was the terrible editing. Lots of skips abrupt skips to words that didn't make sense...seemed like 1-3 seconds' worth. I checked the counter on Audible, and the time did not skip, just the sentences. Once or twice in a book I can handle, but it happens multiple times per chapter. Couldn't cope.
