About this listen

Ten years ago, sisters Olivia and Melanie Greene were on a backcountry hiking trip when their parents were in a fatal car accident. Over the years, they grew apart, each coping with the loss in her own way. Olivia plunged herself into law school, work, and a materialist view of the world - what you see is what you get, and that's all you get. Melanie dropped out of college and developed an online life-coaching business around her cafeteria-style spirituality - a little of this, a little of that, whatever makes you happy.

Now, at Melanie's insistence (and against Olivia's better judgment), they are embarking on a hike in the Porcupine Mountains of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. In this remote wilderness they'll face their deepest fears, question their most dearly held beliefs, and begin to see that perhaps the best way to move forward is the one way they had never considered.

Michigan Notable Book Award winner Erin Bartels draws from personal experience hiking backcountry trails with her sister to bring you a story about the complexities of grief, faith, and sisterhood.

The story was ok; the writing was ok, and the pronunciation of places was ok, but really unbearable at times, especially at the end with Tahquamenon falls - it really was at the end of the book, but it left me feeling like the story was not told by anyone from Michigan so made it less believable.

Ok story and Pronunciation was unbearable at time

Narrators MUST learn to pronounce words correctly. Not doing so is the quickest way to jerk readers out of the story and lose credibility. no

The ending made me want more. I would enjoy to read a follow up book.

It was a little slow in the beginning, but then.....

Being a life long resident of Michigan and the Upper Peninsula it is insulting when the Reader does not bother to learn how to pronounce names of cities and locations. Why not take the time to call a local library perhaps and get the correct pronunciations? This was the second time I’ve ordered this book the first time I returned it but I lead a book club and had to listen. I also read it and it is a great book. I think you should do a new recording. Thank you!

Loved the story but many pronunciation of places, towns and falls were very wrong. Need to do homework before you record.

incorrect pronunciation!

The reader incorrectly pronounced many dies in Michigan in the story. It was distracting and inconsiderate.

Incorrect pronunciation of many sites in Michigan.

The reader was just that, a reader! Boring. I like more animation in a story. Not to have a book read to me.

Not very interesting

Reader was not good. Monotonous Best used as a sleeping pill because it didn’t matter if you missed chunks of it.
