About this listen

“Charming characters and twists that keep the pages turning.” (Southern Living)

A man with a painful past. A child with a doubtful future. And a shared journey toward healing for both their hearts.

It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl’s pretty yellow dress can’t quite hide the ugly scar on her chest.

Her latest customer, a bearded stranger, drains his cup and heads to his car, his mind on a boat he's restoring at a nearby lake. The stranger understands more about the scar than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives.

Before it's over, they'll both know there are painful reasons why crickets cry...and that miracles lurk around unexpected corners.

Praise for When Crickets Cry:

“A testament to the power of words - from Shakespeare and Longfellow to Ezekiel - to heal and empower humanity.” (Lynne Thomas, retail manager, Jekyll Books at the Old Infirmary)

“If you read any book this year, this is the one.” (Coffee Time Romance)

“Martin's writing is gifted and blessed and insightful. His prose captures the essence of the story with beauty and sensitivity. I look forward to reading more of his work, past and future.” (Once upon a Romance)

This was an incredible book and honestly should be made into a movie! I fell in love with the characters, and the plot took twists I wasn't expecting. As always, Charles Martin did not disappoint. I am working on reading all of his books and haven't read one yet that I didn't absolutely love!

Should be a movie!

This story was well written and so touching. I don’t usually cry while reading or listening to books but I definitely did during this one.

Loved it, loved Reese! The story was great and well performed. As a nurse, some of this was like a tv drama as far as protocol goes!

Very medical

The story was not sappy, but a true to life journey about one’s recovery after a broken heart.

This book was a gift to listen to during a time in the worlds history were chaos reigns.
When Crickets Cry is plain life unfolding around extraordinary circumstances. This audio book just felt good to listen too. Down to earth people living life, all struggling in some form or another.
I wanted to jump in and hug Reese, let Anna know how brave she was and move in to house on the lake.
Come untangle the stings...it is worth the read or listen.

This story was great, and the reader was perfect for the story. I was entranced the whole way. And the language was totally non offensive. Thanks for a clean and gripping book.

I loved this book because it told a story but if you looked carefully Theresa was so much more. There were messages about love, forgiveness, faith, hope, friendship, what it means to truly live.
