About this listen

Before Christ called her daughter...

Before she stole healing by touching the hem of his garment...

Elianna is a young girl crushed by guilt. After her only brother is killed while in her care, Elianna tries to earn forgiveness by working for her father's textile trade and caring for her family. When another tragedy places Elianna in sole charge of the business, her talent for design brings enormous success but never the absolution she longs for. As her world unravels, she breaks off her betrothal to the only man she will ever love. Then illness strikes, isolating Elianna from everyone, stripping everything she has left.

No physician can cure her. No end is in sight. Until she hears whispers of a man whose mere touch can heal. After so many years of suffering and disappointment, is it possible that one man could redeem the wounds of body...and soul?

Beautiful story that will touch the hearts of many who share Elianna's struggles with self - worth, feelings of guilt and unreturned love from a parent or just plain rejection.
although one feels at times that the course of her life is unrealistically cruel, it is completely possible for some to suffer so much heartache. The lessons hidden in thus book, however leaves one thinking and pondering long after the book is finished.

Beautiful story. Much to ponder......

I hurt and loved with her. I wanted healing and understanding with her. It was easy to see out of her eyes. What an amazing journey.

Amazing! This book kept me engaged the whole time.

Just what I was looking for... a clean, engaging story that kept me entertained and emotionally involved. With the added bonus of some biblical principles and historically accurate pieces thrown in to make it seem familiar. I really enjoyed this narrator's voice as well. She was an excellent choice! I'll be reading more from this author for sure!

Excellent voice, excellent story.

What did you love best about Land of Silence?

Ethan and Vetreoto ... These dynamic duos saved the book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Land of Silence?

Ethan's return...

Which scene was your favorite?

When the Roman Cavis came to Elianna's home and her friend, Vetreoto? stood at the door. Loved when Titus showed up at the door as well and the effects that moment had on Cavis.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Any additional comments?

This could have been a decent book, however, it was far too long on the front end. Where the real good part came to light was two hours before the end of book. I think the writer spent far to much time with Eliana's long and drawn sadness. So much so, it became depressing because she went from one low point to another, to another. Understandable, but the writer should have brought Jesus' part on the scene sooner.

But, Ethan saved the day and was the great balance to the book. His character was incredible and his love, unwavering. In my opinion, readers should consider reading/listening to the abridged version vs. the unabridged version.

Tessa Afshar knows how to take history and make it come to life and she did it again in this story. She took the Biblical story of the woman with an issue of blood and wrote a fictional story about how it could have possibly happened, while at the same time weaving in the faith and love that Elianna has for Christ. It is a powerful story of love and forgiveness and also demonstrates how our past can define our future unless we are willing to let God and let go. Loved it.
