About this listen

This classic work of Fr. Faber, which many consider his best, was composed to help us "serve Jesus out of love. Because once we love then everything becomes easy."

Fr. Frederick William Faber CO (1814-1863) was a noted English hymn writer and theologian. He converted from Anglicanism to Roman Catholicism in 1845 and was ordained to priesthood in 1847.

Great book, not the best narration

This book is a wonderful, if at times, tedious, meditation on the inner orientation towards Christ. It is an old book, written in a Victorian British English that is at once eloquent but also at times cumbersome. Unfortunately, the narrator of this audiobook edition is an American gentleman with a rather monotone voice who is obviously not tremendously familiar with the subject matter (his mispronunciation of certain very famous catholic saints’ names is a bit jarring, for example). This regrettably subpar presentation of the material does make a difficult book. Unfortunately, a little bit more difficult to get through.

All criticisms of the narration aside, this really is a wonderful book filled with a refreshingly unapologetic Catholic take on spiritual matters. If you have patience and diligence, this is still worth the purchase.

Riveting!

Once you start listening to it, you can’t stop until it is finished. Great narration and great content that every Christian should not only be aware of but know thoroughly and practice.
