About this listen

For generations, the dragonriders had dedicated their lives to fighting Thread, the dreaded spores that periodically rained from the sky to ravage the land. On the backs of their magnificent telepathic dragons they flew to flame the deadly stuff out of the air before it could reach the planet's surface.

But the greatest dream of the dragonriders was to find a way to eradicate Thread completely, so that never again would their beloved Pern be threatened with destruction.

Now, for the first time, it looks as if that dream can come true. For when the people of Pern, led by Masterharper Robinton and F'lar and Lessa, Weyr-leader and Weyrwoman of Benden Weyr, excavate the ancient remains of the planet's original settlement, they uncover the colonists' voice-activated artificial intelligence system - which still functions. And the computer has incredible news for them: There is a chance - a good chance - that they can, at long last, annihilate Thread once and for all.

End of Thread!

Great finish to the threat of thread. Anne McCaffrey weaves a tale of hope and advancement of Pern.

A most satisfying end

All the Weyrs of Pern is the successful culmination of Anne Mccaffery's entertaining Dragons of Pern Series. I listen to the other novels just to build up to listening to this. It is my favorite of the series.

I do have some complaints about the performance. It's read a bit too slowly and he makes Master Robinton sound like he is always pontificating in a patronizing manner, which I didn't like. He also made F'lar sound like he was from New Jersey. But overall, it's a good listen once you get used to his voice acting.

As a tip, do yourself a favor and read Dragon's Dawn before this one.

great book

the end credits made me cry, that alone makes this book worth the read. I must wonder if Ann MaCaffey was giving her farewell when she wrote of Master Harper Robinson's death.

One of my all-time favorite McCaffrey novels

Having read over 70 of McCaffrey's novels, this one stands above almost all of the others in my opinion. Anne had over 20 years of novels under her belt before tackling this one and her experience and craft really shows. The book is exhaustively researched. The characters are deep and relatable. And the story is a perfect endcap to the epic Dragonriders of Pern series. Other books were subsequently published in the Dragonriders of Pern universe to tell other aspects of the world McCaffrey lovingly created, but this is how the series ends and how a new life for Pern's embattled inhabitants begins. McCaffrey left behind an impressive body of work spanning more than 40 years and while she's best known for her iconic Dragonriders of Pern series, McCaffrey fans should also check out her Talent, Crystal Singer, and Freedom series.

A satisfying end to a wonderful series.

Just like the rest of her book, this was beautifully written. Completely fascinating. i admire the amount if time and research she had to have put into this book. Definatly the most satisfying series I've had the pleasure to read/listen to. The narrator projected each character's voice perfectly to their personalities.

All the feels

Mel foster is a decent narrator. This story never fails to punch me in the feels, it does so though, while aloft on the wings of dragons. This story is all the more emotional given we have since lost Anne McCaffrey since my last reread.
