About this listen

I started my junior year of high school knowing three definite things: I believed in God. Good grades were the key to my future. And I wanted a boy to take me to prom.

Then Liv happened. The way her eyes smiled when she watched me made my stomach do somersaults. Mysterious and flirty, she inspired me to question things about myself I took for granted. People seem to think certain traits are ingrained in you from the moment you're born. Personality, special talents, sexual identity, things like that. But what if some things aren't so black and white?

What would people say if they knew Audrey, the good church girl, was actually only...almost straight?

having to leave twenty words is stupid I quite reviews on goodreads and don't want to double do it. I will leave a rating to help people decide if they are not on goodreads but because of this rule I rarely even rate anything here. change your stupid rules and just let us leave a rating

ok.... pretty sure it says optional here

This is a beautiful story about a girl who is bisexual. The romance and mood will swing you back and fourth between melting, crying and everything in between! This is s must read for everybody.

Beautiful

this story was terrible, nothing really happened. the worst part though was the actual narration. whoever edited it did not take out the mess ups or when narrator decided to change the deflection of a voice or she pronounce the word wrong. the line or words just simply repeated. do not waste your time on this book the story is absolutely rubbish nothing interesting happen at all and it feels like it was written by a 15 year old.

terrible editing on the audio

this was a well written and perfectly tormenting love story. true it was predictable but in none of the ways that mattered. the only reason for the lost star was because there were more than a few times when the narrator stopped and started, lost her place or falsely anticipated a line and corrected herself. but that wasn't really her fault. it should have been edited better. the narrator herself was amazing. you could tell she was feeling the story and getting into it. her passion and emotion brought out every character and emotion.

Wonderful and powerful

I really enjoyed the story, it was heartbreaking felt and sincere in the telling of how the world views the LGBT world. there was some issues where the narrator would repeat words but not sure if that Mt was the recorders fault. I enjoyed being in Audrey and Livs world for a bit. Lots of what they went through I did as well.

A very good coming out story

Very sweet story though somewhat contrived. Weird repetition of lines at some points, almost like it wasn't properly edited. Narrator read well and had good expression. Overall it was sweet but not amazing writing or performance. Definitely a freshman work from a beginning writer. I liked it but didn't love it.

What did you love best about Almost Straight?

The story was interesting and actually has a pretty happy ending - very rare in the world of LGBTQ+ YA fiction.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Audrey. Maybe because the perspective allows for a running commentary from her POV, there is a decent sense of how self-discovery actually feels.

Have you listened to any of Sarah Pohl’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not. The performance was really great, but the recording was not. I kept getting repeats of lines, outtakes - the editing was awful.

Good Performance, Bad Recording
