Born to a prestigious political family, Avery Adams plays as hard as he works. The gorgeous, charismatic attorney is used to getting what he wants, even the frequent one-night stands that earn him his well-deserved playboy reputation. When some of the most prominent men in politics suggest he run for Senate, Avery decides the time has come to follow in his grandfather's footsteps. With a strategy in place and the campaign wheels rolling, Avery is ready to jump on the legislative fast track, full steam ahead. But no amount of planning prepares him for the handsome, uptight restaurateur who might derail his political future.

Easy isn't even in the top thousand words to describe Kane Dalton's life after his father, a devout Southern Baptist minister, kicks him out of the family home for questioning his sexual orientation. Despite all the rotten tomatoes life throws his way, Kane makes something of himself. Between owning a thriving upscale Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown Minneapolis and managing his long-term boyfriend, his plate is full. He struggles to get past the teachings of his childhood to fully accept his sexuality and rid himself of the doubts brought on by his religious upbringing. The last thing he needs is the yummy, sophisticated, blond-haired distraction sitting at table 34.

Amazing story

I’ve read the book but listened to the audio this time. Ugly cry warning. Kindle Alexander writes an amazing story of love over time between Avery Adams and Kane Dalton

Always

I absolutely loved this story. I read it years ago and was so excited for the audible version. I have to say I was a bit disappointed by the narrator. He was much too monotone for the story and it just didn't flow as it should have. The book, the story itself is amazing, so much love and so much heartbreak.

An iridescent overwhelming love.. breathtaking

Absolutely loved loved this book! Seriously despaired of Kindle EVER putting a book out on Audible! Well, it was worth EVERY Bit of the Wait! I cried, I couldn't quit listening - and I have read this book at least three times! Kindle has several books that are unforgettable, this is one of them. I am often affected by a strong, cohesive story with characters that resonate - but this is so much more. Kindle is an author that gets to the soul of the character and works out from there - and I feel like i could know and love these characters... I am a heterosexual Christian Grandma who absolutely loves Love - and I would love to have a man like either one of these men! Avery and Kane are mesmerized by each other from the beginning - they each are in love at first sight - Avery gives up a shot on a here-to-fore mission to the Senate - Kane is deeply religious despite complete rejection by his UnChristian Christian Family, dedicated to running his restaurant with his self-made tiny family. Kane wants forever, committed love. You've heard this story before, and yet this is never boring - it is breathtaking. They fill your heart with the aura of their love. They take the time to anticipate and examine the status of their partners - always. Kindle, first thank you for creating or channeling these beautiful people - thank you for translating love for all of us. Lee Swift is perfect for this book - and gives dignity and resonance to Avery and Kane. PLEASE!!!! I BEG YOU to Please, Please release more Audible versions of your books, I find they are a wonderful partner to the read version. I look forward to every new release!

The most beautiful book I’ve ever read 💕💕

I read this book years ago and decided to buy the audio when the 2nd book came out. What a mistake. The narration was not that at all. All he did was read the book and barely paused between sentences. This is my most favorite book of all time and I just can’t get over the fact it didn’t get a top notch narrator. So disappointed. But please don’t miss out on reading this. It is a gem that I have never forgotten about. I have started Forever and it is really good too!!

Love this book!

I have read this book multiple times, I love this story. So when it came out on audio, I jumped at the chance to listen to it. The story is amazing, so whether you read or listen to your books, you need to know the story of Kane and Avery. I cry every time I read this, and the audiobook version did the same. It’s just such a great love story.
I am not a huge fan of this narrator however. The narration was not smooth at all, he seemed to stumble over words sometimes, paused at weird times, and didn’t differentiate the characters voices enough for me. I listen to audio books a lot, and after listening to so many great narrators, I was a bit disappointed in this.
But I listened to the whole book because it is THIS book, and for this book, I was willing to deal with that.

An amazing heart-stopping romance

I read this book several years ago when it was first released. The story so impacted me I couldn't review it at the time because my heart was broken. I'm just as heartbroken this time around but I'm also filled with love and joy.

It takes a special author to write a story that touches me to my soul. I have read many romances over time (purists might say that Always is not really a romance because of the ending, but I disagree), and I can't remember being so touched by a book and the characters as I have been by Always.

Listening to the audiobook a couple weeks ago was completely different from reading the digital version years ago. The words were the same but the experience was so much more intense. I felt as if I were actually living the lives of these two men who faced and overcame so many challenges and adversities, and did so with such love and perseverance in an age of intolerance towards gay men. Thank u Kindle Alexander for showing the amazing power and frailty of loving someone so much, someone who is so different from u and ur experiences, but having the strength to overcome those differences with love and grace.

Amazing!

Thanks Kindle, for finally doing an audiobook

I’ve enjoyed Always for several years now. Kindle’s books are always amazing. Avery and Kane are great characters together.
I’m disappointed in the narration though. The voices were fairly distinct, so I can’t fault that, but the narrative parts were kinda monotone. And that’s not good, especially during a sex scene. As much as I loved reading this book, if I ever want to experience it again, I’ll read it myself.
Kindle, if you read these reviews, please continue with audio formats for your books. There are plenty of great narrators out there.

Amazing story, disappointing narrator

I’m not the first to review this, nor the last. But I realized that I’d never reviewed it at all and it’s absolutely one of my favorite reads. So I thought I’d re-read it again and just comment on how this book makes me feel.

The first thing I noticed on this re-read – is how hopeful I am that one day something like this will come to pass – and soon. With Obama, and possibly Hilary making history – with the passage of marriage laws – with the new open eyes we (as a nation) have and continue to open – I sincerely hope that one day sexual orientation won’t be considered a “hindrance” in any way shape or form and that a gay politician can make it to whatever office he or she or they desire.

I loved the OTT mushiness in this. When I’m feeling low, this book is so full of sweet and happy and that ending – OH. Man. Talk about an emotional release. I cry every single time I read it. Ugly cry. Every. Time.

Now, the beginning makes me cry as well – so I’m pretty much a wreck right from the start.

Another thing I liked about this was the movement through time. The new technology. The change in their relationship as they aged, had kids, got a different job… all of those played out in their personal interactions, too.

The ending – well – I consider it a beginning. I like to think that after all the hard work and dedication to their family and careers, Avery and Kane can finally just BE together. Always.

With my highest recommendation 6 of 5 stars.

Audio

Lee Swift does an ok job with this. He isn’t super compelling and I can’t say that I thought he really added to the story but it wasn’t a bad way to listen to this story. He was pretty monotone and flat and for this story, it was a shame.
