About this listen

Read by the author, this collection of poetry is for all the hearts that have done everything "right" but still end up in a gutter - all the people who are pissed off and unfulfilled, and who are able to laugh at themselves.

No more lies. No more pretending. Whether we have lost our self-concept to our own broken childhoods, to parenthood, to careers, to marriages, to the wrong lovers - it is time for us to champion one another's truths, to embrace our worth, and to dispel toxic expectations of perfection.

Borne out of the author's postpartum depression journey (and subsequent nervous breakdown) and sexual awakening in her 30s, Jordan's poems explore the interweaving of relationships, loss, healing, and self-worth. This collection follows the trajectory of self-exploration through relationships that have broken down and brought her closer to herself, prior to and in the aftermath of hospitalization - predominantly, the abandonment of Jordan's mother, a trauma which only manifested once her own baby was placed in her arms. Jordan's bicultural marriage and experiences as an immigrant in Great Britain further highlight the complexity of one modern woman's quest for personhood.

Spoken word for a new generation

Emotional, raw and invitingly honest with original music throughout. Striking language in performance. Jordan's poetry is so vulnerable that it invites us all to embrace a common and imperfect humanity. Top production quality.

Poetry that stopped me in my tracks

Jordan Claire McCraw's poetry is raw and honest, but her reading of the work gives these snapshots life and energy. The poems jump from one topic to the next catching you off guard making you laugh, cry and reflect. I listened to this book in one straight sitting but I think I will be jumping back in and picking out new favorites time after time.

An Emotional Triumph

While the words on the page are incredibly poignant, it is obvious to anyone who listens to this audio book that these are poems that are meant to be experienced, rather than simply read. Jordan Claire McCraw's voice imbues each piece with emotions that ground, re-contextualize, and celebrate each step in her personal journey.
